what kind of diff

Hey all,

My brother has a 1998 2 door wrx...it has the dccd button. Don't know stuff all about it and was wondering what kinda diff will it have? It's his new project bought with out the engine and gearbox but he has a v4 RA engine and box...will the gearbox be suitable for the diff?? does dccd come factory in that model wrx. He wouldn't mind keeping it dccd but at the moment just trying to find info on what he needs to do.

From the sounds of your post, it will no longer have DCCD (apart from the switch gear) as the DCCD resides in the centre diff.

Your brother can install the gearbox and engine, but will not have DCCD (or STI engine as the car being a 2door will be a Type R STI)

If he has the V4 RA box i would imagine that was DCCD and i think the diff your after is a R180*

Standard V4 RA gearbox will not be DCCD..

CAA, 5BA, and 5CA all use the R180 and come in DCCD flavours. What is the serial on the transmission 1992-RS?

Non STI do not have DCCD.

My money is its a B4BA.

sweet az he'l just have to go without dccd then...yeah the engine and box is non sti so thats even more of a bumma. Thanks heaps guys.

In my experience id say a nine inch is always best...dont piss about mate.Dont worry about the IRS,maybe even go to your local hot-rod shop and ask them to mody you up some rear leafs!!(now that hasnt been done before i dont think) .

look up both the gearbox codes, on is on the gearbox he has and the other should be on a plate in the engine bay. Then look them up on this web site http://spda-online.ca/modules/tinycontent/rewrite/tc_28.html that will tell you what rear diff ratios are and if the box you have has DCCD
