Hey guys, first post here in a LONG time. Been a while since Ive had a Subaru and looking at getting one for the SI since I spend alot of time down there.

Been looking at this one here:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=228097100

Anyone got any tips of things to look for on them etc. Last one I had was a 97 WRX STi and that was years ago. Anything to look for on the old Legacy RS's?

Does the back seats fold flat forwards does anyone know?

What exhaust options are there in the Otago area ie specialists or fitters or are they all in chch? I want a loud rumbly exhaust for the car whatever I get so whats the best system to achieve that?

Any help guys much appreciated!

Same as most subarus, service records etc, if they been well looked after they seem to be ok, but any 1 could be a time bomb

straight threw exhaust will give loudest noise, down pipes of primary turbo can make them overspool and wear them out quicker

Says it's got a zaust already, you should be sweet man.

Be sure to listen for bearing knock when you go to inspect it. Don't confuse it with piston slap when cold, which is very common for these cars to have. Ask how often he services it, the correct answer is "at the very least every 10,000 k's without fail!". And don't thrash it cold.

Looks like a seriously nice car, and well looked after from the pics. I'd buy it.

Oh check what engine it has, EJ20H or EJ20R. Can be found on the little plaque on the passenger side strut tower in the engine bay.

Yea its very tidy it seems and a genuine seller. Vehicle seems immaculate. Going to get a pre purchase check done on it as I cant be there myself to see it so I will await the outcome of that. I know you shouldnt take everything the inspection people say to heart but it gives a general outline overview of the vehicle etc.

Apart from this, is there any other legacy RS's in the SI that any of you know of for sale. Tidy etc and good nick for around 6K?

Whats the trick to getting that LOW rumbling loud subaru sound without sounding crakly? Any advice on BOV's?

The engine was replaced and re cond at the same time, is that common and ok to have that done?

Also:

Best BOV

Do the rear seats fold flat forward so open from boot through the rear seats fully

Any other things to look out for?

What price range are these 97/98 RS's going for now days?

Best BOV it totally up to your taste, although everyone says dont buy cheap copy cause there shit pretty much

and they do cause it to overfuel when changing gears or something, no biggie, everyone does it anyway

yes seat fold down

Dont know, turbos seem to die on them sometimes aswell, if it boosts nicely and pulls hard you should be alright in that aspect, service records & re-con reciepts are the best i think tho. AA check should pick up most things

Not to sure on price, dont quote me but i think sedans are worth abit more, seen cheaper ones but not in as nice cond or with a re-con, if all the bearings etc have been done in the re-con i think thats a mint price to pay & you should have fairly trouble-free motoring

So whats a good clean BOV to get that doesnt whistle, last one I had in my STi whistled and it pissed me off, sounded stupid.

Any advice on good ones to get and installers in Otago would be good.

Im awaiting to get some more detail on the vehicle with regards to receipts etc but I think its not a bad price all considering if its in good nick plus its black ;)!

That GFB Deceptor Pro looks & sounds cool too, you can shut it off if you dont want to sound like a dick in built up areas if you want or open it right off and ponce around.

So, what about the prices on these things, I think its a VERY good price all considering IF it checks out clean. What do you say?

Where can one get a GFB BOV fitted down south? Anyone know of any good tint places down south too? I usually get all my cars done at Tint a Car on the shore in Auckland, good guys, good job but are they down south too?

so I have, cheers for that. But do any of you know what these things are worth, the legacys Im talking about. Twin Turbo Manuals 97/98's etc. Is around 6K a normal figure? And how can I get a mean rumbly low exhaust note without sounding to pop or crackly?

Fit it yourself, and grab one from GFB on the forums. There's a special on this month for them too - check out the for sale section.

And they aren't worth all that much any more... sadly. A real good tidy one like that should go for between $6000 and $7000. A more beat up/un-loved one will be around the $3000-5000 mark. A 98 GTB limited with only a blown motor, and some dings recently went for $1600 - a f***ing bargain.

Ok

This car

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=229254480

That Im interested in had its engine replaced with a recond one in late 2007. One NZ Owner, got the receipts of work done etc and looks all fine, planning on a AA Inspection.

Ive got the receipt of the work done and I want one of you techos to look at it. I can send it to you asap via email as I dont know how to upload it here as an attachment. Can someone in the know PM me so I can get their opinion?

Cheers

it's been listed at least once, so if you do want to buy it, i'd offer him $6k and see if he accepts. or just put that bid in, since it closes in two days...

im getting it checked out before I go commiting any amount of cash on any vehicle, would be irresponsible not to but we are in negotiations. Plan to fly down to look at vehicle/buy after check comes through clean.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
