Intake / boost fluttering?

Recommended Posts

A couple days ago, I installed the K&N Typhoon intake. First things first, LOVING the new sounds.

Noticed on the motorway in 5th and 6th gears that the boost makes a flutter sort of noise after it peaks and settles at around 1 bar.

I will be getting the car tuned at PB soon (just waiting for turbo blanket and inlet hose).

But, in the mean time, does anyone know what is causing this noise?

Evidence: (skip to 0:21 if impatient)

Is it a problem? Is there a fix? Doesn't sound like it's doing any good...

What BoV do you use?

I'm watching your boost gauge and I can see it peak then taper off, which is around when you hear the noise. I wonder if 1 your BoV isn't holding boost causing the issue or 2 your boost control system is not holding boost and when it tapers off you're getting surge.

Keep in mind I have no idea. I'm sure your tuner will know.

I use GFB Respons adjustable BOV set to about 40/60 (more recirc).

Yeah, I was trying to keep the boost gauge in focus because before filming I noticed that too.

Regarding boost control system, I have seen some posts online that suggest a 3 port boost solenoid might provide a fix but haven't really looked too much at that. You can lose yourself online with some of these car symptoms queries.

Simplest explanation is the turbo is trying to push more air in than the engine can swallow, it's backing up and makes that weird chuffing noise.

It's not ideal but a decent tune will take care of it, or just dropping the boost a bit at the point it starts chuffing

Some cars suffer from it a lot worse than others for what it's worth

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
