BL5 McIntosh AUX question

Hey guys,

I've been searching for ages about the AUX button on my facelift BL5s Mcintosh Headunit. I eventually found in the owners manual the bit where it says there is a 3.5mm jack in the centre console, right below the cigarette lighter type power plug. Upon checking my car I found that there was no 3.5mm jack, only a little square black cover that seems reasonably well fixed. I didn't want to force it and break it as I checked it in the dark.

My question is, if my head unit has the AUX button, why does it not have a 3.5mm jack? Or at least some other method of AUX input? Seems silly to have the button if it requires an aftermarket setup to get AUX

Car is a 2007 facelift Spec B NZ new.

Thanks!

Mike

Mines the same. Pretty common case.

Can only guess the the headunit was designed as a general unit and certain markets got the aux ahead of others.

Have a look on legacygt.com there's heaps of walkthroughs with what you need to buy to get it working if you want to keep the mcintosh headunit

When I bought my BP GT from Wingers the salesman pointed out the AUX jack in the storage box between the front seats alongside the secondary cig power plug. He then said they were an optional extra and we were lucky the first owner spec'ed it. So I guess if you want to retrofit one you may have to pull out the HU to access the jack on the HU.

You just need an optional AUX JACK KIT part #H6210AG000 (partsouq got none in stock, US$60 something - looked at it a few days back out of curiosity), should be plug and play.

Someone put an aftermarket AUX cable in mine, not too sure how it is wired in at the back of the headunit though.

My guess is there's simply a 3.5mm jack in the back of the HU. That gives you the option of either using a genuine cable and fitting for the console box, or using a $5 DSE cable. If you go the cheap option then you don't necessarily have to feed it to the console box, so you could have the cable feed into the glove box, or maybe the storage box in the top centre of the dash, or maybe out the coin tray, etc.

Slightly off topic - I love the sound quality of the mcintosh system. The best OEM install I've ever heard and better than any aftermarket install I've heard although I've not heard systems in luxury premium cars (installs from the likes of B&O, B&W, etc). With just minor adjustment using the tone controls you can get a really nice balanced sound. Bluetooth integration is all I miss.

Na if you look at the pics for the parts you need they'll all proprietory connectors which makes sense since if it was a aux straight into the back it'd try do something when we press the aux button on the stereo which it doesnt. The aux being out cannot create a block like that so it'd have to be one of those connectors bridges a circuit that livens up the aux option in the unit. Seems the most logical way to do it. Most optional parts in cars are done the same way these days

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
