4 POTS for my WRX???

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm building a track day social racer and looking at upgrading my brake package.

1-Are the later model brembo's that much better than the older but still 4 pots of the early STI's?

2-How much is a good price on a pair of front (older style) 4pots

3-How much is a reasonable price for the later model (gold) brembo sets?

what modifications would need to be made to fit the brembo's or older 4pots to my 96 WRX

input appreciated!

My 2c

How bout starting by upgrading pads in brakes you have...

There are some really good race pads about now..

I seem to think that people have a misconception that standard brakes on any car are shit..

I still run standard size in my car just with race pads all round..

I'm doing 1:23's round manfield and have not had fade yet.

Like i say just my 2c.

I think you will achieve what you want with just upgrading the lines, pads and fluid on the OEM brakes

I am currently running upgraded braided lines, red stuff pads and slotted drilled rotors on rebuilt std brakes.

its in a fully stripped out 2 door and my original train of thought was exactly what you are saying that with a lighter car and a slight improvment it should be sweet.

But iv started second guessing myself since its getting close to running.

hmmm...

Can anyone answer my pricing querrys?

thanks...

Don't bother with the Brembos not what i would call a cheap upgrade, i would bypass these and go for a complete aftermarket setup.

You can pickup sets of 4 pots for next to nothing these days; however it is best to find the limitations of your OE setup and upgrade accordingly.

If we are just talking about the fronts;

4 pots will bolt straight up, you will only need the larger Rotor (294mm) to suit.

Brembos will bolt up will need rims to suit.

I paid $350 for my 4 pots with new pads and skimmed rotors, a damn good deal. expect to pay somewhere between that and $600.

I've never looked at Brembos but imagine they will be a very high price; maybe around 1k.

STI 4pots go for between $2-300 on trademe. Just bought a set and i can honestly tell you they do make a small difference. The calipers dont retain heat for nearly as long as the 2pot cast calipers.

Pad size is pretty much the same. Pad prices are wildly more expensive for the 4pots. With good pads/fluid and slotted rotors i was getting very little fade even after a couple really hard laps of manfeild. The 4pots cool down much quicker so im hoping to see an improvement in my lap times on my next outing.

However my car is insanely heavy - so i think 2pots should work well on something like a wrx.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
