Yes you can, but consumer guarantees act protects you for not doing this. If you are not quoted the price for a service before hand, and you believe the price you are charged in the end is unfair, and you get quotes from other companies in the same industry proving this, you win hands down.

I sympathise with you, and i do think you got ripped; but, just to be clear:

When going from normal shocks to coilovers, remember that its not just pulling the old ones out and bolting in the new ones.

Coilovers should be set up correctly before driving on them, this means setting the spring tension correctly, and adjusting height (where they are height adjustable). Add to this, you cant just set them all to the same height and whack them in, to do it properly they must be fitted and then adjusted to allow for the differing weight ballance of the car.

Obviously, you should also have the wheel alignment done at the same time (you didn't say if they did this).

It helps to know this BEFORE you ask someone to 'just fit the shocks', as there is a lot more time involved to do it properly.

However, at $100p/h, it's an expensive shop to learn this leason at.
