Buying a Legacy 3.0R - What should I know about them? Waterpump replacement?

Hey guys,

Looking at purchasing a tidy 2004 BP5 Legacy with the H6 motor, its done roughly 130,000kms.

I am aware these are a chain driven engine and while this saves the usual 100,000km service,

do they still need a waterpump replacement?

Feel free to post any other service related info on these as well, I don't know a crazy

amount about them and would like to avoid buying a lemon although I am going to be shopping

at dealers only for this.

Thanks in advance!

I have seen alot of H6 subaru's with 300+ kms on the clock and none have ever had issues with water pump.

The 3.0 H6 is the most reliable engine and service intervals are every 10.000kms.

Hope this answers your question

Something my useless brain has acquired knowledge of...

Even though they don't need a cam belt replacement due to the cam chain, they still need the the accessories belt replaced, along with the bearings in the idler pulleys. If not replaced, the most common problem is the bearings in the idler pulley that is mounted off the A/C mounting bracket, collapses, which along with letting the belt have a party against your radiator, also damages the bracket. Its a common enough problem that those brackets are usually the first thing to get robbed off a ez30R when one turns up at the wreckers.

Other than that, they are mint. They cope with been abused for along time with out complaint.

Im not sure if this applies to subaru, but I had a Duratec V6 with chain camdrive, and that did require the chain tensioner to be replaced/readjusted every so often (can't remember what interval at the mo). I'm guessing this would be part of the 10,000km service?

Water pumps are a weak point in the ez30.done mine at 160 and done a few at 220-250. Chain all show no wear. Lh tensioner can cause tapping at cold start. Never replaced a chain.

But otherwise a great motor with small niggles to work out. weeping head gasket would be worst major problem and relatively common

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
