Drift max intercoolers

Good weld quality? It looks like someone patched it together with chewing gum then sprayed it silver, the bead in that picture is ****house.

Plus that core is smaller than some TMICs, you'll be spending money to make your car go worse.

Yeah its not that intercooler so was wondering what they are like from the people that have brought them and smaller then most top mounts?? Pretty sure a v7 sti one is smaller then this. It was going to be that or slightly bigger http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=914505349

It has about the same core volume as a stock V7 STI intercooler. And I dare say the Subaru core would cool better.

A decent aftermarket TMIC will have more core volume = more cooling capacity and probably an even better core.

By the time you spend the money on this, and the piping changes you'll have to make to make it fit, you may as well sell the FMIC as a kit to someone who doesn't mind it sticking a mile out the bottom, and put a V7 onward STI TMIC on your car. Net performance loss = 0hp, and monetarily I would expect you'll be better off.

EDIT: I could be 100% wrong on this but didn't you have a V8 STI with a FMIC that wasn't even plumbed in?

Im running a ching cooler with no issues. Prob all come from mgp anyway. Issue with tmic is heat soak period. I still dont see how this cooler will be any different fitting as inlet outlet wont change height unless you cut spotlight cover shrouds in which case you may as well stick with what you have. :/

My ching cooler works well with tiny and man sized turbos.

Heat soak is a myth on a road car. I can cane the piss out of mine and the intercooler is cold to the touch by the time I get out of the car and open the bonnet.

Unless you're the sort who likes to give it arseholes away from a traffic light you've been sitting at for 5 minutes.

Never had a fmic on my v8. Never needed it. Was thinking about putting a v7 sti top mount on. Big hassle though and then i would have to get a bigger scoop painted and put on or else it would be a waste of time. At this point i am weighing the options.

Really dont want to stay with what i have. Its butt ugly. Was hoping to go around the spot lights some how instead of chopping them off. Will have to weigh up my decisions i guess

Pfff no it isn't

I've measured and they heat up as soon as the car comes to a stop, after 5 mins you'd be looking at 80 deg plus if the cars running. A front mount suffers from next to nothing in comparison, tmic gains a degree every couple of seconds as soon as the airflow stops

The tmic is fine in a race car, and ****house in a road one and no amount of bigger cores and or scoops can change the fact it's an aluminium core, in the centre of an engine bay, at the highest point, above the hottest component, below the only outlet for said heat

Sorry back on topic

But you see, I give exactly 0 ****s about my IAT when I'm doing 0kph at the traffic lights. For all I care it can be 80 degrees.

As soon as you start moving the IAT plummets.

When the car is making power, it tends to be going kinda fast. Unless you like helis, in which case get a front mount.

When you say "start moving" - it means at least 30kph before cooling even really begins

By which time you've already made full boost, and starting cooking the intake charge even more

Can frown on traffic light antics but also applies to race car on grid, drag car sitting in staging lane. That couple of seconds of pinging can be all it takes, even so so much worse if you've got any form of launch control in action

Hey you've done the math on the theoretical time / volume difference with a front mount, there's 0 downsides.

Depends on how you drive I suppose, personally I notice the difference heat soak makes in around town driving - even just a quick half throttle squirt to get into that other lane could hurt the motor if it's sucking back a mega temp intake charge

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
