no kidding. but in the USA none of the cars are imported, so there goes a big chunk of the cost as well. still, you will find the same price differential in pretty much anything- cars, clothes, milk... everything is cheaper in the states.

Japanese to US Exchange rate....

Japanese WRX (2.0GT) fully optioned is 2,572,200 Yen... that's $27,092.98 USD according to google... Of course Subaru of America would be paying wholesale rates and they wouldn't be getting fully optioned with the JDM satnav, built in car phone, etc etc...

In comparison to the NZD exchange rates that 2 and a bit million Yen is $40,173.46 NZD; that's where your difference is!

Yes, but Subaru NZ doesn't convert their currency into US Dollars and then into Japanese Yen...

Exchange rates between two different countries will always vary wildly, especially at the moment... unless you're in Canada.
