Loud Metallic Noise

So you only hear the noise when you hit the brake pedal? Like you tap the pedal and it thuds?

You sure its not just your pads shifting in the caliper when they grab the disc? Mine do it on the 4 pots as the holes are slight larger or elongated compared to the pin and have stretched the pad spring. Everytime you hit the brake pedal you get a thud or loud click from the front brakes. Nothing to worry IF its that.

Not quite tap, Like I can press it softly and not hear anything, but then that doesn't slow my car down much. If I press it down with normal pressure I get the thud thud thud, it sounds really nasty. How do i check for that? The pads seem to be fitting very snugly and there's no play in them

I dont think its something you can check besides seeing if the pads slide back and forth. Is the noise when you come on and off the peddle or you press the peddle and its a constant thud thud? Almost need a video of it.

Only when you press the pedal and its a constant thud

Pull the discs off again and have a good check for any damage.

Yeah I might try and get a video of it today and post it, that'd probably help actually. Wouldn't mind getting someone else to drive it so I can listen outside. Cheers guys!

  • 3 weeks later...

Finally got around to welding a nut on my old one and pulled the wheels and brakes off. Everythings perfect, there's nothing wrong with the brakes so I'm lost as to what it could be. Going to put it up on a lifter on monday so I can stand under it and have a listen

Tried the ABS, unplugged it and went for a drive, still made the same noise. Hub looks alright, dunno about the wheel bearing, but it just seems strange that it would occur as soon as I've changed my brakes, but maybe its just a coincidence

Aaahh. Come to the conclusion that Pit Stop F*cked up the machining of the disks! Got a new pair to try out on my car to see if that solves it, and if it does, yuss, though I dont think i'll be seeing any money from pitstop

Yeah they actually did it. I didn't bring them to them, I brought them to Evolution Motors (They let me use all their gear and watch over me so I dont **** things up lol) and they sent them off to pit stop. Apparently its quite common on Subaru disks for that to happen because the hub part is thin? Though I'm not sure. Got a pair of new ones to try out on my car tomorrow to see if it fixes it or not

Looks like they were possibly re centered? thoughts?

Pictures are really bad quality. But they look like they've been re-centered I think? You can see circular marks where its possible they were welded up and machined? That it seems ****ed up to me cause it would probably be cheaper to buy new disks than do all that.

So its either that, or the machining of the disks was wrong

Theyre normal so far as i can see. No welding marks or clean steel so they havnt been touched. Maybe just a small ridge somewhere on the surface we cant see in the pic.

the centred thing you talk about is the concentric ring that is fitted when the wheel doesnt sit on the hub, dont worry about it. they havent been modifyed

Naaa there's no ridges you can see on the actual disks (its both of them, I thought it was just the drivers side, but when I had someone else drive it you could hear it form both, and if you braked around a corner you could get them out of sink). So i'm guessing when pitstop machined them they weren't bolted on completely flat so they look fine, but they're slightly off. Apparently it happens a lot with subaru disks?

subaru discs arnt any different to any other set up.. i love it when people come out with the old "apparently its common for subarus" line. its because there is so many of the bloody things that it seems common

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
