Whats going on with my roof-racks?

Got a 97 wrx sports hatch thingy. Just bought some roof-rack cross bars on trademe (like these http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/32/105669932_full.jpg), which seemed to measure fine. They guy selling them had them on his Legacy.

When I got the home, I discovered that the side bars (attached to the car) arn't parallel! So the rear X-bar fits ok, but the front one is too short.

Does anyone know if this is normal with WRX's? Kinda annoying!

Yup, most aren't parallel. Time to relist them I guess....

I have the same racks on a wagon dude just modified mine to fit ....

its not to hard. Where are you based? you only have to mod the front one

So the top clamp slides in and out about 20mm, with an slot hole for the bolt. But it doesn't reach far enough. Did you just make the slot longer?

I'll see if i can take some photos for you - just requres the use of another nut and bolt.

An update... I unbolted the top sliding clamp, and whatdoyaknow it has a second slot which can be used to extend the reach of the top clamp. And for the bottom one, I bolted a piece of 2mm plate on. All sorted! Hope this helps any other WRX owner with Legacy cross-bars.

Oh, and to unbolt the top clamp, theres obviously the main bolt, but also a small hidden screw under the rubber strip along the top.
