1992 (BF5) Legacy Stereo Wiring Colour Codes

Hi guys,

I've got a 92 Legacy with no stereo installed and now I want to put a head unit in it. I know the colour codes for the wires off the back of the head unit (it's written on the top) but I can't find a wiring code on the net that matches my Legacy's stock wiring. Does anyone have a pic or link to the wiring colour codes for a 92 Legacy?

Do you have access to a multimeter or test light? You can get a cheap multimeter for about $16 and testlight even cheaper probably. Can just use that to figure out which wires are earth (black), 12v (yellow) and "ACC ON" (red). Then the speakers from memory are the same standard colours as what most headunits use (although I haven't done a Subaru stereo in years, Hyundai was my last one).

Its not too hard to figure out which wires are the right ones to use. May take a bit of probing and turning the key on and off etc to check.

well when I had my 93 leggy the wiring colour codes that I write down coz I’m onto it is as follows and I’m 70% sure it’s the same on the 92, but never have owned or seen it in a 92 lol

Radio Constant 12V Blue/Yellow

Radio Switched 12V Yellow/Red

Radio Ground Black no brainer there

Radio Illumination Green

Radio Dimmer you won’t have

Left Front Speaker (+) Brown/White

Left Front Speaker (-) Green/Black

Right Front Speaker (+) Red/Yellow

Right Front Speaker (-) White/Black

Left Rear Speaker (+) White/Red

Left Rear Speaker (-) Red/Green

Right Rear Speaker (+) Blue/Green

Right Rear Speaker (-) Red

If the wires haven't been chopped and it still has the connector, buy an adaptor harness for it. Repco stock them.

Got it all sorted.

Wiring colours were like nothing I could find on the internet.
