Accessory Wire in a 97 WRX

Anybody know what colour it is? Last owner of my car did a crap job and I just put my new head deck in using the same wires he did. Illumination & Access are running to a solid power source and would like to change this obvs.

Do you have any tools like a test light or multimeter?

They'll tell you straight away which wires are acc and ill ones.

I think the red wire to the cigarette lighter is acc if you need to make a guess.

Try the yellow with green trace wire.

dunno how true this is but ive seen one of my mates test wires by putting them in his mouth.....he wired up my turbo timer this way.

im guessing its like testing a 9v battry on the tongue! worked tho and never had probs with any electrical stuff he has put in my car, (thanks heaps bro for the perkies if you end up reading this)

I dont mind if the illumi wire is on the Acc coz its better lit up when its on anyway

The illuminate wire actually dims the display when it is triggered. Better off leaving it off i reckon.

Really? Its connected up with the ACC wire atm which is constantly recieveing power, and the whole thing stays lit up so maybe my new Pioneer is different lol. Its a DEH-P700BT if that helps. Didnt want to bother with a Handsfree kit for the car so got a bluetooth head deck instead haha.

Makes my Soundstream 6's sound bloody nice even without an Amp. And no sub yet either.

I didn't say it turns the display off. It dims it so that its not really, really bright at night time but is bright during the day so you can still see it when the sun is shining on it.

On the pioneer headunits there is a dimmer setting in the setup menu: off/on/auto, so if it's in the off position it will make no difference whether or not the wire is connected. I preferred it connected and set to 'auto' with my unit as the OEL blue display was rather too bright at night.

Most modern subaru's the accessory wire is yellow with red stripe and generally the thicker of the wires in the loom, it will be yellow but may have a different stripe colour. It will be the same thickness as the ground wire - the rest of the wires are generally slightly thinner
