  1. i've got the cheapo 1kg quell above (from mitre 10 or bunnings - don't remember) in a custom kap bracket from aus. the quell is ok but the straps are nasty and sharp, and the metal tag rattles !
  2. a new car shouldn't be this bad ? ?
  3. as likely as a rhd valentine 1 ?
  4. uniden r1/r3 /r3 are detector detector proof. irrelevant in nz as detectors are legal and local cops don't use detector detectors. just tested my r3 against the local fixed redflex polecam. results were excellent ! in clear/slightly overcast conditions i got ~300m gps voice warning and ~200m radar alert in both directions. superb results as these things are on tall, skinny poles that are easily missed by eye until too late. why does your friend want a bel sti xr ? they are old, old, old wait a few months and you''ll see a flux of r3 as owners upgrade ?
  5. " What went farther, the driver or the engine? " ? https://www.thedrive.com/news/27576/high-speed-crash-launches-whole-subaru-wrx-engine-and-transmission-into-nearby-yard
  6. rain-x, regular wax, quick detailer etc all good on windscreens
  7. newer detectors have improved sensitivity for nasty radars like the new redflex cameras (mobile and fixed) and improved filtering for blocking non-police radar like car anti-collison systems etc. gps equipped detectors should have been updated with the latest fixed camera positions. my car gps has the old positions for fixed cameras - as do gps escorts - updated maps plus retain old positions - a pia ! i've just updated my uniden r3 with the latest gps map - palmy has a new redflex fixed camera a few km's south of longburn on sh56. the r3 gps gave me a good 10sec or so voice warning before the detector went off. hardwired is good if you stick to one car, gets expensive of you fit out several cars with hardwired/hidden detectors. portability is a bonus if you switch between cars. ?
  8. from snz https://www.subaru.co.nz/promotions/legacy-sti-experience it's largely $5k of sti performance cosmetic bits 'n pieces. one item that stands out as a potential cause of your bounciness is the "STI embossed supersized 19" alloy wheels and Yokohama tyres". the snz photo shows a Yoko BluEarth A. this is a crappy eco tyre, it has no place on a sporty car ! check the tyre pressures, wheel alignment. gut feeling is poor tyre choice. it's a shame to see the RS and STI badges used this way
  9. friends have had the escort hidden units. neat, discreet installs but performance suffers. not great value. the only hidden unit that really performs is the stinger, about $8k nzd ? http://www.stinger.co.nz/
  10. there may be some low mileage r3s on the market soon.... ?
  11. in terms of outright handling, mx5 walks all over any wrx/sti. checkout lists of best handling cars and you'll find them full of 2wd cars like the mx5, or even fwd ! ?
  12. i lolz at all the mentions of zee french oils. ?
  13. need moah crackles and backfires ?
  14. for a few years i was using the valentine one + bt module + yav1 phone app. it performed well but was getting to be a pain in the ass to use. last year i switched to the uniden r3. it is a superb performer, that's also easy to setup and use. currently the best windscreen mount detector sold in nz, with maybe the radenso pro m. a big bonus is that uniden have finally made software updates readily available to users. as mentioned above, the uniden r7 will be out in april. big bonus is valentine style arrows updated for the 21st century. it will be more expensive than the r3 (currently $899nzd/399usd), us rrp will be $599. nz ??? lots of good info at vortex radar https://www.vortexradar.com/ https://www.youtube.com/user/TravelCam1111
