  1. My old man has owned a MY00 WRX GF8 since new for 19 years, done 260,000's, only thing that's gone wrong with it is the radiator header tank split which is a pretty common issue. Been on trackdays, up ski roads and learnt to drive on by 15 year old me. Basically they're bulletproof if looked after.
  2. Ummm I just did it with a oil filter removal strap and adjustable crescent lol, not ideal but hey, got the job done and better than spending $80 on a tool you'll use once
  3. Will also point out if you have an oil leak at the front of the engine with wrapped headers they will (can) get leaked on, soak it all up and dramatically increase the risk of an oil fire. Don't ask me how I figured this out, I've actually been meaning to take mine off headers as its more of a risk than benefit. Have read that if you have AVCS then some shielding around the front of the heads is a good idea.
  4. You're dead right for a road car, 260kw is stupidly quick for most situations
  5. More depends what size they are, if they're 17x7 then they'll be worth a few hundred max
  6. Bought a set of 17x8 monoblock versions for $700 last year with decent tires, probably got a bit of a deal though, they come in both forged and monoblock types of construction from what I know with the earlier forged ones being worth more, both are pretty light, they have the construction type printed on them.
  7. Ordered some new brake pads, interested to compare the old Ferodo DS3000's with the new DS Uno replacement
  8. gc8 4 pots always seem to have rubbish feel, interested to see how you get on if you do play around with the master cylinder.
  9. SAS are a good time as mentioned above I found that in terms of bracing the best thing GC8's is to try to hold the front end together better with fender braces, K brace, can both be picked up pretty cheap and weight next to nothing, diff brace is also good, cage should do the rest Coilover spring rates it'll really depend on what type of tire you're running, figure that out then talk to a manufacturer like MCA and they'll be able to recommend something.
  10. Depending on what class you're looking at isn't the street class in superlap limited to a 200 treadwear rating or thereabouts anyway?
  11. Yes you'll easily be able to get 6+++ out of them, they're a good tire but nothing on a semi slick grip wise. Nankang NS2R's are excellent, seeing more and more nankangs at trackdays particularly the AR1's but probably a bit much for the road as well. Currently trying to burn through a set of RE002's that I hate and 4 trackdays haven't made much of an impact on them
  12. had one done by the AA a few years back and they mentioned the car had 'surprisingly good' compression for its age, turns out the motor had been completely replaced a month beforehand with the wrong engine (wrx vs STI), didn't get picked up, whats more the receipts were literally in the glovebox... I wouldn't expect Euromarque to be liable for much here, probably just learn from it and move on, however I would check for anything else as if they've missed basics like that then there could be more major issues hiding.
  13. If you're looking for 260kw you'll be able to get more than enough out of decapped injectors on 98 (currently running them balanced to 800cc at over 300kw). Aftermarket units on a 5k budget will chew into your $$$ a lot and as @Batbaruman said there's a lot of supporting items that would be good to have If you are looking at stock location turbos there's some pretty pricy ones out there that don't seem to make good number's for the $$$, the Tomei units in particular seem to be average despite the great looks when considering they're often as expensive as a full on EFR turbo. Blouch might be worth looking at
  14. TD05 would be a solid option unless you stumble across a used rotated set up or something, there's a good recent conversation on Tomo'sGRB build thread about turbo options you might want to check out
  15. Td05 would be a good start you're not wrong haha, depends what you want to use the car for, what your budget is and what is controlling the engine, E85 is kinda magic if you want to go down that route EDIT: @Gripless Beat me to it
  16. haha didn't say they weren't good just not as good, the nz new wrx's have a different final drive (either 3.54 or 3.9 vs Sti's 4.44, I can't remember which) so they sit at a better rpm at 100 + they're a little bit quieter and better on gas Good point, may well be outdated logic
  17. There's not a whole lot you can do for cheap as the standard turbo is just too small, if you wanted to go to a bigger turbo such as a VF24,VF28,VF29 or even better VF30 then the engine will be able to produce the power quite reliably. Tbh though you're probably better off just putting the money towards a gc8 sti, there's quite a lot of difference that makes them a lot quicker to drive, have previously owned both and they're night and day compared to a standard NZ new wrx, not as good to daily or road trip though imo
  18. I think its a 2000 one and the one you uploaded is 1999?
  19. Beat you to it This is the year after yours, nz new got colour coded mirrors and door handles on MY00 model years + 6 spoke wheels, that's about the only difference.
  20. Not sure if anyone in NZ stocks them though I could be wrong. SPT is an american brand that is often stocked at american Subaru dealerships, its not a 'genuine' Subaru part. Genome products were a series of accessories that were available in Japan as part of the STi aftermarket parts catalogue, the Genome moniker being a marketing term for STi's 'tuning' range as opposed to their rally or race focused aftermarket parts, most of the Genome products add a little performance but are mainly for show/driver enjoyment. I would call them OEM even though they weren't original equipment as such.
  21. You can generally get away with just doing the oil and filter and a good visual check over, I wouldn't touch the AFM sensor, if its all working correctly leave it alone, reset the ECU if you like but again if its running fine don't bother. While you're doing the filter check for any oil around the rocker cover gaskets and head gaskets, these do fail over time. Check the intake filter and coolant level and that's about all I do. You will have to do the cambelt at some stage in the future if it hasn't been done, generally they are due every 100,000k's
  22. Yep super nice car that the poor fella has obviously put a lot of effort and money into 390kw Saw a couple of comments on facebook around this one that apparently 12 were nicked in chch over the weekend, not sure on the source here but yeah. I'm no expert and don't know the details but I'd say this one was scoped out and targeted due to the value of the parts on it.
  23. Has started doing the rounds on facebook, contact owner if seen. Number Plate MADSTI, standard looking v4 coupe with black wheels
  24. Not in my experience, put an ebay one in my gc8 with a 6 speed, can't remember what it was meant for but fitted fine.
