  1. north shore in auckland the drive belts may be just cracked and worn out which would be causing the squealing
  2. work on quite a few of these at work what year is it and its got 2 drive belts one belt for power steering and one for alternator and ac if you have it and the knocking noise maybe pinking if you have crappy plugs. I could give you a hand if you want
  3. have the same problem its quite loud but once the car is hot you can still slightly hear it but only at idle (800rpm) to about 1100rpm
  4. Removed the sound deadning from my boot and under the rear seat. (almost a whole bucket full). Then removed all the useless speaker wire that the person that owned the car before me tried to put in and epicly failed at doing. Also going to reconnect my heater core now that i have cleared the whole thing out.
  5. my boss says that i need to get a tune once i get it to calibrate it to my car does anyone know a good place to get this done and any idea of prices
  6. As the title suggests. Do i need to buy a new map sensor to be able to remove the air flow meter. Can you use the cover from a standard ecu cos it dosent come with one. Im running a preety much bog standard RS the motor has been rebuilt about 7000km ago im thinking of still running standard boost (10psi) but will the internals be able to cope if i put a TD05, bigger injectors etc. Ill post other questions up if i think of them. Cheers
  7. could have failed a warrent because of sill damage and that might have been noted down but it would have to have been fixed before you passed the warrent so you shouldn't really have to worry
  8. getting a aftermarket ecu might help wyatt seeming that the first thing to do before you twist the turbo and flip the manifold
  9. Im looking at putting front and rear strut braces in my bc5 Legacy and i was looking at ultraracing braces on trade me. First question are they any good and second if the listing says it fits a v4 gc8 would it be able to fit my car. Thanks
  10. This honda. I think he has been trying to sell it for like a year now. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Honda/prelude/auction-346177375.htm
  11. My afm died this week so i took it to work and showed the boss. Because he worked at a subaru dealership to do his apprenticeship he said that there is one common problem that can easily be fixed. The problem is especially with cars that have a pod filter is that the dry solder in the top of the afm shake so much and break loose thus losing the connection and causing your car to run like a bag of crap. So what you can try and do is remove the top black cover which has silicone around it. Once that is removed you should see 3 to 4 wires on the plug side of the afm. If the solder is broken on anyone of these this could be your problem. All you need to do is resolder these connections and if that was the problem it should be fixed. Please note: this my not work for every case as other things also go wrong. But i did this at work and now the car is back up and running.
  12. im pretty sure platnum plugs last alot longer and for turbo subarus you are supposed to gap the plugs to 0.8mm so that the plug runs more efficently. did it in my car and it runs alot better on cold starts and while running hot
  13. as title states. does anyone know how if a bonnet scoop of a gc8 would be able to fit bc5 bolt holes or would there need to be alot of work done.
  14. have you made double sure that all caliper slides are lubricated
  15. was talking to the boss about this today (has just come off his wof relicencing course) and they have changed the rules so if it is considerably louder than stock standard exhaust noise it is a fail. Not sure if you can get around it with a cert plate. GRUB
  16. also with the repaired sti if its not legit and you go to get a wof done it could fail from bent chassis or something similar
  17. has anyone tried getting cv boots and such from ADL. They are a really good parts shop that specialise in drive-line. pretty cheap as well.
  18. on my car one of the hoses going to the water pump has a small weep. this drops onto the headers but gets burnt off almost instantly could be where the coolant smell is coming from. also if your radiator has been replaced water pumps are prone to start to leak. just a thought
  19. gold type, just for road use but maybe a track day here and there
  20. Was looking at these on trade me and i was wondering if they are very durible and if they are in the same league as tein shocks and others. Cheers
  21. does anyone have an answer to my question :-\
  22. with my springs only one side rubs on the guard which is the left hand side of the car there is a huge difference on each side. I can fit my hand between the guard and tyre on the right but cant on the left would this be a wheel alignment problem?
  23. Just wondering if anyone has a photo of a bc5 with just low king springs as I'm sure my one has super lows at the front and just lows in the rear Thanks
  24. its normally quite easy to just go to exedy and part shops yourself and buy it at trade (if you can get it) ((my sports tuff clutch was only $450) but if you find a good garage where they dont mind working on subarus you cant really go wrong
  25. im building a closed deck engine that im rebuilding i could sell the short block to you if you want
