Popping like it's hot!

Recommended Posts

So I recently had some different struts put in my car, afterwards I noticed a "popping" type sound in the back.

Mate checked it out and found the nut on the shaft was loose, so we tightened it, and less of a sound, but still there.

Took it to a place today, thought they would tighten it some more for me (rattle gun?) unfortunately this didn't fix the issue, and now I have this picture for you (spot the problem) Yes they tried to tighten other things too...

no reason for them to be too tight. the sound you hear is probably the shock sticking in the strut. Very common with rear WRX shocks being so long. You'll need to take them out again,

take the shock out of the strut casing... clean and grease with some light grease.

I have to do it regularly :(

Yeah I was looking at him tightening things through the back window.

I know the moment when it happened, and the whole time when he was doing it i was thinking "I don't think he should be using a rattle gun for this".

But I never checked it until after I left, the cap was put back on it too :o so when I took if off and saw that, well, y'know...

Um sorry guys but I use a rattle gun on heaps of bolts that u would consider would not need to be done :)

And i am a "REAL" mechanic and do this for a living, sometimes when it comes down to it it is a matter of time

but saying that tophat bolts would probably be done by hand as they are not that good a quality bolt( would say at max a grade 4 bolt)

Resolution!

So I must say I'm relieved.

The guys have replaced the broken, and resolved the popping issue.

The strut was as Tony said, a piece of rubber missing, replaced that and all is swell!

So very pleased with their service in the end, they just sucked it up and got it sorted for me. Mag and Turbo Rotorua! Those guys there really do love their jobs a little too much though I think :)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
