What is this beside the intercooler on a BC5/BF5

Recommended Posts

i think it's the heat shield for the turbo, similar to the ones in the early wrx's... but that's just a guess. someone else here will be able to confirm.

picture would help, too.

Yeah its the heat shield/air cooler thing for the turbo. If you look at the bonnet you'll see where it connects to the bonnet scoop for pulling outside air in to cool the turbo.

Excellent cheers guys. Also can you clarify that a td05 turbo off a wrx and a sti intercooler bolts on?

Yup direct bolt on

Yup bolts right up, however im not sure that the chimney thing will fit it. So you might need to throw some insulation or a heat shield on it.

Its not really needed just good insurance

off the top of my head (again), is either the brake or clutch master cylinder located just near the turbo on the older legacies? i know my flatmate noticed the difference with his v1 wrx when he put the heat shield back on, better pedal feel etc... i just can't remember which it was.

Brakes. I often had heat soak issues with the brake master cylinder.

STi intercooler... that's going to require a wee bit of modification ain't it? Given the WAIC system is very different. Also, it won't cool very efficiently unless you hack into the bonnet... not a heck of a lot of air gets in there (the scoop on the BC/BF is for getting cooler air to the turbo etc, not to the intercooler; the bottom of the scoop is blanked off and goes straight into the heat shield/chimney you described) whereas the Imprezas OM NOM NOM it all down through their much larger scoop.

Has anyone had any issues with a TD05 on a bone-stock BC EJ20G - ie, going POP - or is it a riskless bolt-on? Folks I know that have done it, or will be doing it, have or are going to have yellow injectors (and appropriate management).

No point putting a TD05 on a completely stock BC5. But with filter and exhaust it gives some gains. However you really need a proper ECU and injectors to be able to use the turbo efficiently.

Best to put it in and chuck the car on a dyno to make sure its happy.

No problems bolting on a TD05 onto a stock BC5; with a mind to modify later.

TD05 is a good cure for the top end lacking VF10/8 that they are equipped with from factory.

Run them on 12psi and they will feel the same as the stock turbo on 14psi without the breathless top end.

I'm dead against using any sort of top mount inter cooler (as well as larger scoops on Gen 1's); either stick with the WAIC or go front mount, The TD05 will bolt straight up to your WAIC setup.

Already has an exhaust, so the plan of attack is sourcing a v2 sti ecu (or is chipping the factory ecu easier/cheaper?), yellow injectors, td05-18g and still thinking the sti tmic. Also does anyone know if sti v1-v8 seats/rails bolt in?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
