Intercooler options?

Recommended Posts

Out of interest, what sort of power level are you running to be considering the factory top-mount a limiting factor? I don't know about the BL/BP IC but have seen flow tests which show the BE/BH IC to be practically identical to the STi IC of the same time.

Well I'm not chasing loads of power but rather a few good upgrades and a retune to suit them.

I have built a 2door WRX from the ground up and followed the international legacy forums closely. It would be a rule of thumb that up pipe, down pipe, intake and intercooler mods with a retune net you some good power and efficiency gains.

So if a WRX cooler won't adapt what NZ options are around for a bigger top mount core to suit the legacys? (I will add an electric fan to ditch the heat soak)

i love my aftermarket tmic its just a cheap one off trademe but its different and i haven't seen it on a legacy yet.

Yeah it was a mission to fit was meant for a ver7 but where there is a will there is a way.

BL/BP intercoolers are completely different to earlier models. Put simply, they won't work without massive engineering and therefore costs.

Doing a quick search on Google comes up with either Perrin or AVO replacement top mounts. Either one of those translates into moonbeams and a couple of piles of rockinghorse sh*t each.

From memory i think ive seen a aftermarket intercooler for BL/BP made by MRT in auz. It was part of a upgrade kit which consisted of a bigger turbo, bigger or thicker top mount, exhaust, and maybe intake?

It was all in a vid MRT put up on youtube a while ago but can't look for it cos got super slow internet :(.

Yea it's a great kit but not local and very pricey

/quote]

and developing your own from scratch wont be? ;)

less than a brand name by $300 if you fab it all yourself ;-) the main cost for me will be the core.

have you had quotes done? or are you an alloy welder yourself?

also are the cores available in the size you need?

be interested to see what it costs you all up. not that i'd be after one, just interested.

one thing to remember is name big brand ones are designed and tested to be very efficient, it may be worth paying the extra $300 or you may not get any increase in power.

it's been a few years since I was alloy welding but it's like riding a bike ;-) hahahaha... Also the laws of air flow are not rocket science but just takes time to think it through and design the tanks well with the space availible.

Yes their are tanks of any size availible fabricated in chch :-) I'll keep you posted in another thread.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
