Exhaust options......

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.Im new to this (clubsub) and to the world of subaru.

I have a 98 GTB Limited RFRB in yellow,56000km and wanna start tinkering with it a little!

I have only done the 'snorklectomy' with 120mm duct from f/bumper to trust airnx pod(un-oiled) with a

DIY alloy heat deflection plate(half of a custom DIY airbox realy),autometer carbon series boost gauge

and a walbro 255 intank fuel pump. Now i guess i should look at the exhaust system.......

1st.Do i go turbo back? 2.i dont want the cops hasseling me for noise 3.any suggestions where i can get a reasonably priced system in nelson or chch,pre-made or i can weld up.or anything else i should know?

Can you find the zerosport sequential controllers 2nd hand? Anyone got one?

Any ideas or advice anyone wants to throw my way will be much appreciated.

I just want some subtle mods without comprimising too much reliability and to change my beloved wagon

a little from being the stocker that it is.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Rage systems are based in Chch, best prices I've acquired are from Partsco

Send them an email and ask them about your best options. Then contact Partsco for better prices haha!

+1 for rage exhaust, they are pretty good.

And the ZS controller is a good idea if you're finding VOD annoying. Don't bother if you like vod. (all it does is let you change where vod occurs, btw. It doesn't actually reduce it by much)

And go back to a stock airbox. Pods are gay. They only add problems, especially with twin turbo's.

Agree with going back to factory airbox. pods let in more particulates (especially sand if you're near a beach) Which wear down the compressor blades on your turbo increasing spool time and lag. I have inspected a VF31 which had this problem.

As for exhaust, i believe most of the dB increases relate to the rear muffler. I have an HKS Hi Power on mine which is LOUD, but i pass WOF's no probs and never get hassled by the police.

Flag the ZS controller, Turbo back exhaust and just get started on a single conversion. Odds are you'll spend all that cash on the TT system only to decide to go single in the end anyway (like me).

Do it once, do it right.

My 2c.

That applies to aftermarket foam panel filters too. My new VF39 blades are chipped to buggery cause of that stupid HKS panel filter. Honestly, stock filter an airbox is the wisest idea.

Also have the HKS silent high power muffler (on a rage down and mid pipe), and i have been hassled by the cops, and failed about 3 wof's with it (had had to jump from shop to shop to find someone who doesn't give a toss)

Thanks heaps for the advice,i'll use it all wisely!

Today i went n saw a guy at magoos nelson n he came up with a good option (so he thinks) for me.

Skip the turbo back option,go 2 3/4" from hi-flow cat back rage system for a little under $700 fitted,as im not after the fastest car GTB in the world, just get the best of a fairly standard setup. What do you think?????

Think i'll bin the ZS controller for now as the VOD is no where near as bad as some ive been in.

Standard airbox minus the K/N panel will be put back in tomorrow

so far I'm getting a 3 inch Fujitsubo exhuast system in my car, but cuz I'm twin turbo'd I only got it to the first section of the piping (supposably I was told any more then my secondary turbo will fail) but yeah it should make the boost come on sooner and stuff...

at first I did do a pod filter mod, but I reverted back to the factory air box and fitted a K&N panel filter, it seems to be alot cleaner.

if your worried about noise, you could even consider using the Australian branded Varex exhuast system, it has a electronically controlled switch that can either open the ports inside the muffler for full loud, or quiet operations.

Yeah i'm surprised i get no hassles, as its real effing loud eh. (mine is just a hi power... no silent in that!) Will see what happens when i do down+midpipes.

Ah well, just remembered i'm in the legacy section. The single turbo with a 3" catless downpipe is propably why mine is so loud. A standard TT downpipe setup would be allot quieter. With the 3" Catless setup i have, it's hovering right smack on the 95 db limit, hence my grief.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
