Subaru Legacy Heritage 1995, whats your thoughts?

girl friends sis looking at this, thoughts everyone?

 

Had lots of work done over about 2yrs ago with a focus on the cooling system (radiator replaced, heads off and on etc, also have recently removed the thermostat)

that part worries me lol

Those are HIGH ks. but that 2.2 engine still has some life in it yet. However it may not if he's been runnning it cold constantly... No thermostat = bad.

would have to question the thermostat if its had the heads off...

dodgy...

you could be lookin at $1200 to recon the engine incl h/gaksets/water pump etc...

imo you could buy it and find a 2nd hand engine..

but really it would cost the same as buying a car with lower kms

but yea the thermo, i don't see why you would take it out unless it was overheating or cracked head gasket etc

seems like hes saying it like its a good thing?

Awww, why not turbos are fun

It's not a good thing - I've seen a couple where the thermos have jammed shut so people just drill holes in them and reinstall. It keeps the engine too cold, and the flow isn't dynamic, so it's always gonna be the wrong temperature (hot climbing hills, cold driving round town)... basically it's a cheap and nasty fix.

i asked him and he said, he took it out cause it was overheated when taking trips over 200kms

no thanks lol...

turbos = win but not for someone w/o a full time job lol

If it wasn't for the 'heads been off and on' and 'recently removed the thermostat' I'd say buy it, they last for ever.

But evidently not.

I've seen much higher k's on those old 94-96 EJ22's. I used to own one as well, with 275,000 on the clock. Never had an issue with the engine.

If you went with a similar car. Budget for new shocks, and a big service.
