Few questions about '97 V3 WRX Sti (GC8D)

Recommended Posts

Hey all, recently bought my '97 WRX Sti (GC8D). Absolutely loving it! Just wondering if anybody knows what boost these things run stock? Also being version 3 Sti it has the vf23 turbo right? Any other info or anything on this car would be great, I just want to know/learn as much as possible about it! Cheers.

correct IHI vf23.

Your looking at peak power (206kw/280hp) at 6500rpm, peak torque at 4000rpm (320Nm).

First version to receive the face lift

~1,250kg

yellow top injectors 440cc i believe

4wd split into roughly 35/65 i think, have never seen an official statement. So still fun to be had in the wet!

They make 206KW (at the crank) stock, and boost about 16psi stock. I would invest in a boost gauge if it hasn't got one.

- Any reason you think i should get a boost gauge, or just to see whats going on? I'm not really a big fan of aftermarket gauges etc, like to keep it stock where possible!

A man after my own heart, but its still a good idea to have one, just to keep an eye on whats happening, as things can go wrong with the car still behaving normally, and the gauge is your only insight.

They can be installed discretely enough, my car came with a pillar mount, which I thought I would hate, but its easy to see accuratly at speed and isnt as obtrusive as I would of thought. Its also pretty easy to remove, as at worst you just replace the a-pillar plastics. Ive already picked up a spare incase I decide to relocate it

Yup, boost gauges are very handy to keep an eye on what's going on, and help diagnose any problems.

There are a number of stock boost gauges available, you can go with ones like in the 22B, or you could get stock (optioned stock) defi gauges from the V7's and up.

They Run 14lb (or at least mine does when its behaving (19lb when tis not)

Should be the vf23 if it hasnt died and been replaced, they are nearly bulletproof in my experience (75,000k with a chip out of the exhaust wheel)

Watch the gearbox if you're anything like every other Wrx driver out there 2nd and 4th have a habit of exploading (IME)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
