2000 GTB with weird engine noise

between about 1700 and 2100 rpm my engine makes bit of a whirring noise. I'm pretty sure it isn't the "sti" exhaust as this resonates between about 1000 and 1300.

Its like its happening just before the point when the primary starts spooling up. If I'm going up a hill in 3rd and the revs stay the same, the noise stays as well.

The weird thing is my old honda sounded similar to this as well

Any ideas?

Yea I've heard this on mine too and got it checked out. Nothing to worry about I've been told. Though mine is like a mild wooshy sound rather than a whine or whirr

Does it happen only under load, or does it happen when it is stationary and you rev it?

Also, is a very loud noise or just a faint one?

One thing that i know that makes a very noticable whirring noise, without hearing it, it sounds like something running off your auxillary belt has dropped a bearing, and the most common for that is the power steering pump. If your power steering pump is dieing it sounds like a cross to a straight cut gearset whine and a supercharger drivebelt whine.

The best way to figure this out properly, would be to take it into a decent service workshop and they should have a stethoscope, similar to what doctors use but it has a steel probe on the end that you can put on different mechanical components to figure out where the origin of a noise is. They should do this free of charge as it is a simple task that takes less than 5 minutes.

same thing happend to mine when i put my motor in, turned out i tightend the powersteering pump belt too much, so i loosened it and problem solved ;D

interesting.. sounds like i have the same also after all the stuffing round with p/s & alternator in the manifold flip. will lossen the belt off a touch and see how we go.

sounds like a straight gear set whirrr.

also my g/b sounds different .. using a 6mt with the blue shockproof gearoil - so suspect some of the whir is from that.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
