Auto clunk

Does anyone want to take a rough stab at why a BE5 tiptronic would 'clunk' into reverse? It also seems to clunk / shudder when downshifting too.

How serviceable are Autos?

Just a drain and refill - what can be done for a service?

A drain and refill uses around 4 litres of fluid. A 4 speed auto holds around 11 - 12 litres full. So you're only renewing 1/3 of the fluid. I drain and refill it, run the engine for about 5 mins, then refill it, and do this 3 or 4 times until the fluid being drained runs nice and clear.

The filter (hidden in the LH front guard) should also be replaced.

Universal joints or bearing, gearbox mounts, diff mounts...

Diff mount bushes - had this on our BH5 , replaced the bushes and all good.

Affirm. Checked the bushes and they are rooted. Off comes the subframe.......

You don't wanna do that. Massive job. Just drop the diff out and punch the bushes out.

Yup. Use a big punch and a big hammer. And don't forget to swear lots.

Or save your sanity and knuckles and take it to a workshop.
