When to replace fuel filter?

R.D

Recommended Posts

I looked at what the Subaru maintenance guide says about them, but it just had 'inspect' every so often (cant remember the interval, but was semi regularly)

i searched around, but there doesn't seem to be much on the replacement of these?

How often would they normally be replaced?

Im interested because some claim it helped to smoothen out there acceleration/ stop the annoying surge, that i sometimes get in 1st gear.

Cheers Guys!

id put a guess at around every 50,000kms? ive done mine, had a japanese fitted one and i'd done around 50,000kms kms at the time since it came into nz, i even cut it open to check condition, was dirty but not too bad. mind you ive since changed it again to an inline one hidden under the car now.

someone else will know the factory recommended intervals though, boostin maybe?

There are 3 types of fuel filter.

If its in the engine bay by the LH strut tower its every 50,000km.

For BE/BH Legacy with the intank filter its every 100k.

For BL/BP Legacy, GH Impreza, and SH Forester and later, its intank and its there for life. But if you do need one you have to buy a complete fuel pump assembly. Last price was around $1800 + GST.

Yup, a BP GT Legacy has those. Filter, pump, sender and surge tank all in one, for the bargain price of $1800. Plus GST.

haha man im confused :D

so what bit were you talking about at first that should be replaced every 50,000kms?

if you have a fuel filter in your engine bay, the round one like the pic above, then thats the one you do every 50,000kms.

Designed for the car. I always use geuine filters on oil and fuel.

Funny story about this that made me so paranoid was Rob at 1st Automotive in Palmy said 99% of his rebuilds with mitsis and subs used aftermarket filters on fuel and oil.

He said alot of them ran Fram filters too so always encourged people to buy genuine filters.

Do 99% of those cars in general run aftermarket filters though? Or is there a higher proportion of cars that use aftermarket filters that require rebuilds.

How many workshops bother getting genuine parts from all the different car dealerships when they can have one account with BNT, Partsmaster etc and just get them to drop round a suitable replacement when they're doing an oil change on a customers car?

Alot of the generic aftermarket parts makers also supply OE parts aswell. I doubt the factory ones are designed specifically for the car either, chosen from a catalogue of parts from various suppliers to be the most suitable for the best price I reckon.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
