ej20t head gaskets

I see there is alot of different type head gaskets available for wrx ej20ts. which is best recomended? fibre? steel? will a .5mm steel work ok when there was a fibre gasket fitted before? will it affect the compression to much? is for a v2 wrx td05 engine.

sorry dont get what you mean (see your other post) I have priced up a heap from different places and segidins sells steels which are alot cheaper than others, ie repco, subaru etc

go with a steel headgasket.

the earlier ej20's (bc and gc/gf type a,b and c) use the fibre gasket, while the higher horse engines which came in later (ej20k in gc being the ver 3 onwards, and the ej20r in the gtb manual model) came with the thicker 3 layer steel gaskets. the size and the layout of the holes are exactly the same just the material they are made from are different.

ver 5 onwards (ie phase 2 engines) had a different block design and they changed the head gaskets to single layer steel items (ie distance from piston to cylinder head changed)

putting ver 5 head gaskets into a ver 4 would reduce the compression ratio and vise versa

thanks, I have got some 3layer steel gaskets now, they are thinner than the fibre ones that came out but have been assured from segadins they will work fine. Only $100 for the pair. the best/cheapest i found.

Playing with head gasket thickness's when you don't know what you're doing is a recipe for disaster...

I have done dozens and dozens of head gaskets on many different EJ motors.

I learn't a few things the hard way whilst 'trying' different things.

I once put 99 WRX head gaskets on a V3 Sti bottom end/97 GTB heads combo and that resulted in valves just touching pistons - no damage was done thankfully.

That engine was running bulk compression and would ping on any more than 14psi with BP Ultimate - we stuck some race fuel in, ran 17-18psi and did a 12.5 in a full weight TT GTB wagon.

As for the quality, I always go for genuine Subaru head gaskets.

I am yet to see ANY difference between the stock fibre gaskets and multi layer steel(MLS) gaskets in terms of durability and resistance to big boost/excessive heat etc.

I have fitted fibre N/A EJ22 head gaskets to EJ22 turbo builds capable of 400+flywheel horsepower - heck, I've even fitted 2.5lt MLS head gaskets to my own 2.2 lt motor which ran 25psi all day long.

Bottom line, head gaskets aren't a weak point on EJ motors up to and beyond a genuine 400HP at the fly so my advice is to put back what was previously there.

Changing the thickness can have more than 1 negative repercussion.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
