Can police fine for exhaust noise without testing it?

My mate just bought a turbo EX lancer, had it one day and today we were driving and a mufti cop pulled him over and asked if his exhaust was certed? I didn't know exhaust needs to be certed.. The car had just been issued a VTNZ warrant the day before so we assumed everything was legit. He checked the cert plate under the bonnet, and reckoned he's meant to have a plate on the muffler to say it's been tested. The think i'm wondering is where is the line drawn which says who needs an exhaust cert and who doesnt, as we ran my wrx next to his car and his wasn't any louder.

Maybe the cop was just being a d**k?

They certainly can. Its completely up to their discretion.

You may be able to get off the fine if you go get it tested and write a letter with a certificate.

By the way it needs to be less than 90db if i remember right and the test isnt done when you get your WOF.

The laws been around for a long time now.

because the garage wouldnt have known, and /or couldnt be bothered explaining it to you as you would probably want to argue the point with someone that does know.

Just get an exaust with a silencer that can be taken out. Leave out when crusing, Put in when you get a warrant OR if the Police pull you over. I've got a 97 Type R and a HSV Senator. Both have full exaust systems and are REALLY loud. The testing station failed me up when i only had the tip done. But once i had a full system, they never pulled me up.

fail.

the virm requires the exhaust system to not be easily modifyed (a removable silencer is easy to take out) so they should make you weld it in place

if it bolts in use 2 bolts, then if they try fail you point out you can remove the whole system from downpipe back with 2 bolts.

You think the cop is going to let you put a silencer in when he pulls you over?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
