Exhaust Smoke

MrAlan

Recommended Posts

Do you let it warm up?

could be that pistons/piston rings haven't expanded and sealed yet or not sealing as good as it use

my car pretty much spits oil/carbon out the exhuast on start up and if i give it some revs

like i still have black marks on the concrete from months ago lol (i have a dumpy)

it's fine once I start driving, just on ignition if spurts a nice big cloud of smoke out the back. happens about 75% of the time.

What year/model car you got? single or twin turbo? how many kms on engine?

also what colour is the smoke?

light gray im guessing is classed as white smoke

cant rember

white=what?

blue=oil?

from what i have been told, experienced

thick white - Goodbye turbo

grey - fuel Fumes/ carbon - Dont forget alot of fuel is poured in at start up

blue - oil leaking into cylinders

redish brown - slight rust buildup - you maybe drivibng like a grandma, or the car has been sitting for a while

Smoke on start up is just condensation. It could only be a problem if it continues after the car has warmed up. I wouldnt worry about it.

What your talking about is condensation, it can be influenced by the weather, temperature, how often you drive and your muffler design.

i get a little puff of white smoke when i turn car on 2. Guessing it not much as has never caused any problems an just put new turbo in an still does it. Still annoying though when u in a busy carpark an ur car spits out a smoke cloud haha

my old TT wagon done that too...I was thinking my primary turbo was stuffed...actually it was because of the grinding noise it made when traveling on the motorway..glad I sold the POS to some guy that thought all that matters is it has a BOV hahahahaaaaa

piston rings worn, oil leaks past the pison rings and acumulates while your car is off and stationary, then when you turn it on it burns that oil and the heat produced by youre engine expands the rings enough to make a good seal

white is normally condensation but if it does it after the engines warmed up theres water getting in there somewhere.

Mine blows blue smoke on startup from cold but thats just a reminder that i might need an oil change, try to change it around 5000kms but depends on how busy i am, starts to smoke around 7-8000kms.

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

      Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
