AFM on a 1996 legacy?

forcefed

Recommended Posts

Hey guys ive got a 1996 legacy, suposidly its a GTB, it has bilsteins and had an orange afm, but only grey injectors, my queston is, is there a way to tell if its a GTB or jst a GT, and what afm should it have in it? engine is a ej20h and chassis is BG5-184590, maybe someone has the same car or knows the specs for it and what it should have

Thanks

Brenton

I'm sure I've seen the purple AFM on BG's too, and I think they have the smaller 3 pin plug.

your right on the money with that..

ej20h run the purple AFM with grey injectors and yes the purple AFM have the small 3 pin

the ej20r run the orange AFM with yellow/GREEN injectors YES GREEN seen them i 5 cars now..

Um, It's impossible to tell EJ20H and EJ20R heads appart from the outside if they are post 96. Only the pre face lift EJ20H's had lines on the rocker covers. The pre and post face lift EJ20H's are very different engines

Also the only BG's to get EJ20R's and yellow tops are MANUAL GTB's. Auto GTB's indeed got the grey top EJ20H, but as stated above, they look the same as 20R's.

I find the orange AFM bit very interesting. I'm not 100% sure, but i will second what matt said, only 20R powered GTB's should get an orange AFM... interesting indeed.

Oh, and yep, i put the chassis number into teh computer, it's a GTB 100%. Pitty you bought an auto though. At least they are more reliable, you won't need to worry bout running a big end at all :P

Edit:

there more way as well head lites and tail life

tail lght on gtb the clear is darker

Also incorrect, that's a pre and post face lift thing. Face lift GT's share the GTB bumper, tinted tails, projector headlights, grille etc. Some even get the same bucket seats, albiet with a different pattern. For face lift GT vs GTB, ways to tell em appart are a bit more subtle. If the bump strips or skirts are unpainted, it's GT, though you could option them painted. The wheels is another way, but these are easily swapped. Sometimes it's near impossible to tell em apart, especially for the C rev..

the orange afm is a larger diameter. the 3pin plug might be the same but you would need to swap the airbox and intermediate rubber pipe before the under-manifold-intake for it to fit.

sure your looking at the injectors? they all have a metalic (grey) cover. they may be yellow and dirty. pull off an injector plug connector to be sure.

Thanks guys, was confusing me a bit but sounds like purple will be the go,

Its not an auto anymore its been converted to manual, haha nah not bigend failure but i brought with suspected headgasket turned out to be a nice big hole blown in the side of the bore lol some1 must of been running extreme boost into it,

Yip definatly grey injectors

Its a facelift 96

my new engine will come with airbox piping etc just need to find a purple afm now

That's so weird. I've never seen greens. It seems strange to have an injector between 380cc and 440cc. 440's are only a 16% increase over 380's, and the ECU can adjust fuel delivery by +/- 25%, so in theory you can fit yellows to an engine meant for greys, and the ECU will reduce injector duty to compensate on cruise, but would have 16% more fuel on boost.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
