basic sounds installs in welli

Hey all,

Thought i'd get the ball rolling... I have been doing audio installs for over 6 years now... anything from headunits, speakers, subs, amps... possibly even car alarms too

Prefer to stick to factory installs... anything custom requiring fiberglassing or speaker pods, etc... i'm sure the right ppl will introduce themselves

I don't suppose you would know what size my standard stock speakers are in my v7 wagon doors?

I'm planning on getting myself some better ones for Xmas!

6" or 16cm are your best bet, and get something shallow mount.

What about using spacers? Where would be a best place to get them from?

12mm MDF is your best bet, anything thicker and you'll have issues with the speaker sticking out too far and fouling on the door card. If you get 16cm speakers, you may be lucky in that they will fit the factory spacers, you'll just have to modify them and crack the weather shield part off if they get in the way of the magnets.

Otherwise, if you want to go to a store.. go to Streetsoundz. However Spark38 here could probably install them. This is his thread after all.. I wouldn't want to step on his toes hahaha.

I do have MDF templates to make some from, if needed.

Do you know if all 4 doors are 6" speakers? Some places on the net are telling me the rears are 4" and others are saying 6"!! I can't be arsed taking the door cards off until i'm fitting them :-\

Ohh, while i'm on, do any of you guys know where I can get a good fascia panel to go around my new head unit, got a Sony DSX-S300TBX, (standard/normal size stereo)?

I'll actually have a set of Soundstream components for sale shortly, but won't be until after Xmas ( I actually have them out of the car now, but not very organised), I'm sure these would fit and I would sell / install them for $150 (cost me $250 new). I don't know about rears sorry.

And the factory fascia should fit fine, unless you're removing a Double Din headunit? In which case you'll just need a pocket from somewhere like Repco.

I think I'm all set now thanks. Gonna go get all the gear tomorrow and found out (after snooping around the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club), that it's 4" in the rear doors. Then hopefully get it all set up over the next week.

If you have issues with them not fitting, mount them backwards, like all the cool kids do these days .

Finally got around to fitting the speakers and head unit!

I ended up with 6" speakers in the front and 5 1/4" in the back!

Sounds alot better!!

Funnily enough, the American hi-fi speakers that came in my Legacy (which I originally swapped out but have re-installed) actually sound not that shabby when running off the headunit. They are only 5.25" speaker but the mid-bass that comes out of them is actually semi-decent.

I'm over audiophile quality speakers now, am just happy with something that sounds nice and doesn't take forever to install.
