Gearbox oil

Guest

Recommended Posts

I need to change the gear box oil in my 2006 Legacy 2.0 R tomorrow. I am struggling to work out what the best oil to use is. I have been given different advice and now I am confused.

It has a 5 speed manual transmission and also has the high and low ratios. I will be changing the rear differential oil too.

Welcome along! Please introduce yourself in the "Introductions" section:

From a quick look off the Castrol website:

-MANUAL TRANSMISSION-

CASTROL MULTITRAX

Manual transmission and differential fluid providing improved gear shift over a wide range of temperatures, particularly cold shift performance. Also suitable in secondary drive axles (front and rear) of 4WD's, for reduced drag and enhanced fuel efficiency, especially in around town service. SAE 80W90, API GL5.

or CASTROL SYNTRAX 75W-90

Service Refill Capacity: 3.5 Litres.

-4WD DIFFERENTIAL-

CASTROL MULTITRAX

Manual transmission and differential fluid providing improved gear shift over a wide range of temperatures, particularly cold shift performance. Also suitable in secondary drive axles (front and rear) of 4WD's, for reduced drag and enhanced fuel efficiency, especially in around town service. SAE 80W90, API GL5.

or CASTROL SYNTRAX 75W-90

I would recommend the castrol syntrax 75w-90 aswell might be abit pricy but made a huge difference in my mates legacy. but then his is a 95 and had never had the oil changed. his gear shift was abit ruff and changing to syntrax smoothed it right out feels alot better to change gear in his car.

I swear by this stuff...! Has very good reviews and is worth the price.

With my EJ20G, the manual recommends Multitrax (80w90) for the gearbox and Syntrax, 75w90 for the diff. But when you do the gearbox, I believe you also are redoing the front diff too. If I remember correctly..

And its on the autos the front diff is separate (oil wise I mean) :D

I dumped some multitrax in the RA the other week. Box already shifted sweet, but it got even better, especially when cold. Recommend.

How much is the multitrax?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
