V7 STi

Recommended Posts

i'm going to have a look at a v7 sti...

it's done 100km and the owner has told me that cambelt and stuff have been changed.

hmm.. is there anything in particular i should look at? any common issues on v7 sti??

i just spent last 2 hours looking at impreza forum and decided to start a topic for a buying guide :o

Just a couple of ideas here..

-Proof of recipts of any engine work been done

-how often oil gets changed- Possibly what oil to..

-Take for a good test drive, make sure all gears shift nicely, no shudders etc , you also could take up a hill to if you were worried about any cooling issues..

Make sure you get actual proof that the cambelt has been done...

Also listen for banging from the rear diff, especially if you turn it hard lock at low low speed, like on a petrol station forecourt.

Other one is brake hard then accelerate and see if the rear diff goes CLUNK on either of those.

Other than that... check the engine temp when you first get in it... if it's cold, don't be too surprised if it runs like a bag of balls for a few minutes, they're forged motors and take a little while to sort themselves out. If it's warm however the guy has obviously pre-warmed it for you and might be trying to hide some nastiness when it's cold.

i haven't seen the car yet cause it's located a bit far from my place but had a chat with the owner

it's stock standard and it's had mechanical warranty during their ownership

just a question on diff, do they tend to go out quite easy? i will definitely use your tips

and i better do some research about the rust

by the way, how much would you pay for it max? assuming that it's in tidy no faulty condition?

Rust is not a problem with used ones........abuse/stupid mods that are taken off and the car reverted to "standard" for sale are far more of a problem.

10k if they want a quick sale

That's a major low-ball bargain-hunter price, if it's genuinely tidy they probably won't take you at all seriously on an offer like that.

I picked up a quite tidy 2001 V7 STi for $14750 about 9 months ago, so $12-13k I reckon is still the bottom end of the price on a nice one.

True that, we all know Kiwi's are low-ballers and always after the best possible price :D

Specially since we are part of a community like this so we see numerous deals which we think are either good or bad. The average Joe Bloggs will still see the prices on Trademe, and car yards and think 15k isn't being ripped off haha :P

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
