v5/6 WRX engines (non STI) what CR?

Hi,

Just need some info on standard WRX engines and ECUs (non STI) questions:

- does anyone know for absolute sure that the standard WRX v5/6 engine run 9:1 compression ratios?

- do NZ new ones have higher PSI boost?

- how do you tell one is NZ new as oposed to JDM (i spose the model/chassis numbers are the indicator here?)

- do all v5/6 WRXs & STIs run yellow injectors?

- what turbos do standard v5/6 WRXs come out with?

Much appreciated

They don't run 9:1 CR thats wrong. CR is 8:1 Boost in mine (NZ New) 14.5. Radio aerial mounted on front A pillar not the back of the roof.

Standard injectors 440cc dunno what colur they are though. 4 Pots on the front are standard fittment.Build date on plaque mounted on passenger side B pillar.

spoke with chap at J3 Automotive in CH-ch and by his books and speaking with his engine builder they said they are 9:1

well I read it on the internet so it must be true!!

lets work it our another way then, They both run the same crank/rods and head castings, so the only difference is in the pistons.

Who knows the difference between a semi forged v5 sti piston and a cast v5 wrx piston?

The V5 sti pistons have the square dish in them I can tell you that much, not sure if they have a different offset pin height though

Nope, you dont have to justify anything at all, but having a virtually unknown person post "they dont run 9:1..." without a rational explanation holds as much credibility as david bain anouncing that he didnt 'do it'.

So explain it dopey or STFU and dont bother ;)

good thinking, i've got the manual from a NZ new v5 wrx and it says its got an ej205 at 8.0:1 compression ratio

and FWIW if your engine builder had the heads and face of an engine resurfaced for a rebuild, then he measured everything up using a factory head gasket it would have higher compression than factory anyway.

just modified my post read back one, theres no mention of any difference between auto or manual compression ratio.

dont believe everything an engine builder tells you as gospel

yea nup i dont take anything as gospel these days.... every man and his dog is a fukin expert these days lol

This is what i am trying to do... my BH with the ST conversion done is 9:1 right, its running a link insert, i want to sell the link and run a WRX ECU (or what ever ECU) that is tuned for 9:1. SO its rather important i get the right information before i fit it.

whats a link insert?

not a plug in link obviously?

/quote]

yea plug-in i.e. fit/insert inside your OEM ECU case

why would you want to swap? just get it retuned for the single setup

it is LOL, long story.... its the missus's car, she wont let me do anything else to it, i have my BG with ST done and am happy with that, i wanna generate some cash as the link is gng to waste in her car

is your BH a rev d model running AVCS and V7 throttle body? cos I thought that was the ONLY one running 9.0:1, if you've got a v5/6 equivilent setup then im 99% sure it'll only be 8.0:1 ie same as wrx

didnt see this post sorry, my BH is a 2001 Rev C, so yea its like a v5/6 setup, but i can 100% gaurantee it is 9:1 CR (after MAJOR detonation troubleshooting when i did the ST converion)

The story goes that the v5/6 STI ECU i was initially using was tuned for 8:1 CR, the BH5 engine was 9:1.. the STI ECU and CR mismatch caused too far advanced timing causing major Detonation. Had to get a Possum link and tune to suit.

K, i emailed a chap by the name of Ewan Clubsub username = todagt, he is a tuner and I believe many know him on here.

I emailed him and asked him the question bout non sti CR etc. He states that the non sti is 9:1.

He may jump on here and explain what he knows...

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
