v3 STi engine into BG5

Firenza

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of buying a cheap BG5 Legacy with a bung engine and sticking my old v3 sti shortblock into it as a new daily driver.

How hard would it be, what issues do people think I would have, and would there be any disadvantages to using the forged STi motor (lower performance due to different compression ratio?)

Any thoughts or help would be cool!

would work fine blocks are the same . you'll also have the base for some upgrades later if you decide to go single turbo :)

there will be no issues with compression just heads on and away you go.

i would find out the reason why the bg5 engine let go as you wouldn't want to do the same to the v/3 block

depends on which bg5 . could be Hydraulic lifters or shim over..... cam profile should be very similar if even identical .

have also been informed lately that gtb heads may even have better profiles then the sti.

info wasn't from me tho.

Depends on what you are going to end up doing to it really.

i.e. if you just want to get it going and leave it in stock format, then any model of BG could be a possiblity (although as I type that I'm not sure how compatible the early heads are with the v3 shortblock?)

But if you want to single turbo it, its easy as pi** with a BG5b. And you end up with a nic-ish daily that has midrange torque :)

there all compatible you can slap any head pre avcs on any block and it will work. (even as early as 1990 rs/gt heads)

the pre 96 heads your talking about are the Hydraulic lifter type . nothing wrong with them imo...... i run them :D

the lifters can get a little noisy but you would give them a once over before you use them no matter what you use.

also my engines a 96 so it may be from 97 onwards.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
