BE5 Gearbox and center diff problems, what are my options?

Hi guys,

My 98 BE5 Subaru Legacy B4 manual has done unrepairable damage to its gearbox/centre diff.

The mechanic working on it is struggling to find parts for it (he found one down south).

Can anyone tell me what the best options are and are there any other gearboxes/centre diffs that will work with my car (ie from other models).

Could get a earlier model center diff (pre 98) as long as you get the earlier rear housing/transfer case as well

This is the best option too IMO

Your model can also use the g/b from all BE/BH models manual

Hey thanks for the quick response, so the gen 2 facelift center diff is stronger? can i us the whole gearbox (bellhousing to rear of center diff) and bolt it up? they use the same 4.444 final drive ratios don't they? any idea if the front driveshafts use the same spline pattern? thanks

the centre diff housing unbolts, replace with unit from earlier g/box

Just to check guys (sorry) there is no need to worry about shimming the diff from the gearbox? just

use all the parts and spacers from the pre 98 gearbox and bolt it up?
