VTNZ WOF FAIL

GRRRR How pissed i am at VTNZ!!!

Took my leggy to get a warrent yesterday and it passed everything..bar...exhaust notes(aftermarketBB)

Guy told me if i took it to Pitstop to get a silencer, would be sweet....so, i went and did that...Pitstop guy gve it a db reading of 90 whick legally is 93 or 91...either way still legal!

Went back to VTNZ and guess what...yep, failed!!

Man how pissed i was, spent 60 bucks to get a silencer installed(like VTNZ guy said) and he still failed it...i said to him it was db metered at 90 which he said its up too the warrent person and it still sounds too loud to him and if i wanted to get an indepent test would cost like $350...

Only other options is to go back to factory or get an extra muffler put on along the exhaust...what a fricken drama?

Oh and the exhaust sounds good, not riddiculously loud or anything and probably 90% of aftermarketed exhausts are MUCH louder..

ANY other ideas guys??

just do what i did... buy a $50 standard muffler for you WOF, when u pass swap it back and keep the 90 decibel reading sheet from pitstop in ya car incase of po -po's

easy :)

however.. if pitstop said it was under the legal limit id be going back there with the recheck and say WTF!

make sure they are not testin it inside...gives a false reading..in some cases 10db higher

so whats with the law that if u got a fail on wof you had to pay for an independant test for noise output and then pay for another check. saw this on a advert in a mechanics shop..

anyone heard of this?

DO what i have done in the past, flange the rear muffler and then drill a plate with 4x10mm holes in it put this in for WoF...Pitstop dunedin have done this for me before and they should be able to sort it for you.

easier option is the spare muffler. its only 2 bolts and 3 brackets :)

u can pick them up cheap enough.. find one off a 250t or something. :)

Bolts??? mine seems to be welded on ::)but a removable bolt on would be the ticket ;D

correct me if im wrong

But doesnt a resignator reduce the VOLUME?

I have a full 2 3/4" exhaust straight thru going into a muffler thats got a 5"tip (please not this is not a "cannon style" muffler... its a real muffler)

got 2 resignators in the exhaust, i dont use a silencer and my car is a quiet Rumble... i can sneak home late night wihtout wakin a soul.

Well simple really you went to VTNZ...

Just go to another WOF testing station and present the test cert you have and should have no issues - this is the simplest and cheapest method.

Then go to the WOF website and register a complaint with the LTNZ (or whatever they are called again) over the muppetness and unfair treatment by this WOF tester (include the testers ID)

Bingo

With my mates MX5 he got failed by VTNZ Whakatane for noise. A quick trip to the local muffler guy cost $80 and gave him a certificate stating his car was within the legal limit. Back to VTNZ and they passed him. Cant understand why some inspectors deicde to make this such a headache.

Where did you say that guy in palmy was Joker? I wouldnt mind him testing the thing you gave me. I always keep a spare stock exhaust for all of my cars before i go chopping together a new one. And i also make sure i design my new systems with flanges so i can swap in more resonators or a quieter muffler if need be.

Go back, find the guy who told you that it's up to his disgression, then quietly tell him that one of two things is about to happen: either he'll give you a warrant (and in the process, stop being such a cock) and you'll both end the day happy, or he'll be crawling home from work...

...and point out that the outcome is at YOUR Disgression ;)

Honestly, why do these places keep hiring guys with really small dicks...

He cant just fail you cos he THINKS its too loud. Id ask him to verify in writing why its too loud. If you showed him the DB reading from the muffler shop it should be ok. If not id be asking for anther technican to check the car or take to another shop. Youll lose your $50 but better than $350.

Dunedin WOF centre FTW !, I can also recommend them

I can't share this sentiment. I have bad Karma with this place.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
