Radiator Top Tank is Goneskies!

Sup everyone..

Went for a drive the other day and got back.. and started to smell something funky from the engine bay, a smell of coolant.. so i quickly popped da bonnet up and to see that the top of my radiator was leaking coolant.. I think my top tank has karked itself.. its not leaking excessively, but is leaking every now and then.. so hopefully the side and bottom tanks are intact.

Got a quote: from $200ish to $800 to fix

are there any alloy radiators out there for Legacys? coz id rather opt for something that will be better in the long run..

Wrx alloy radiators should fit, as the standard ones apear to be the same

If you need one to borrow untill you get a new alloy one sorted i prolly have one in the garage...would have to double check tho

i found it really hard to sell a radiator for a bg5 on Tm for $50.. after 3 tries at selling it i finally sold it for $50.

i presume they would be similar. have a look on TM even with postage it would be cheaper than repairing...

Sorry you mite be right, im thinking early legacy/wrx compatability, but your more than welcome to look and measure the top and bottom mounting bits.

it would be nice to know if any of them fit the BH, ive tried to find one, but so far every one ive asked who sell ally radiators are not sure if all the mounts will be right, for fans, and all that stuff.

there is a place on the shore that makes them, havnt priced it up, but they advertise on the side of the motaway at the bottom of the hill before the constilation drive off ramp.

Sup bro you're my last resort Glen! the highs of fitting my exhaust.. now this hahaha! doh! ive been looking on TM and saw this supplier, A1Radiators from CHCH..

ive been told that if a legacy radiator goes pop the head gasket will go within 6 months (mine did)

that looks like it could be just the o-ring under the tank... pull it out and have it rebuilt... i bet it wont be more than 300. if it is tell the rad shop to pull their head in.

Comparative year models should be similar in most respects, i.e. MY99 WRX should be similar to MY99 GT/GTB

Scale of economy dictates to a large extent what is same (some things like brake calipers etc may differ but the real bread n butter stuff will be the same)

Looking at above picture... it looks the same as the 01+ wrx (centre feed into top tank) so no, not the same as 99 GC8

But as said, i would guess it would be the same unit.

Radiator end/top tank replacement is around $140ish.

I have a spare factory radiator, I put an alloy one in in the last week. Was one of the ones from A1 radiators.

Went in for a silicon joiner and came out with an alloy radiator.. oh and the joiner.

Fit almost perfectly, fans bolted on etc.

I got one with a filler cap on it because i'm ditching my header tank soon.

Oh true, yeah i was gonna get that one but opted for a change of da top tank.. i guess alloy radiator is overkill for a legacy lol.. so ill get one if i upgrade to a STi 8) great how the mounting points for the factory fans are da same..
