WRX Rattle/tin can noise

Hey guys, pretty new here as I'm a proud new owner of a WRX ;D

However just noticed a couple of things which are naturally getting me pretty worried..

It's done pretty high k's as well so any help would be appreciated - I didn't notice these things when I tested it.

1 - at around 1700-2000 rpm and also about 1000 I sometimes hear a bit of a rattle - almost sounds like shaking a little nail in a tin can or like there's something loose? Not the best thing you want to hear coming from your engine - doesn't matter whether I'm accelerating or decellerating seems to do it at these rpm ranges - maybe others but haven't really noticed anything.

2 - when the engine's warm I've noticed a faint ticking when idling and I stand outside the car - I guess this could be anything/it's quite common?

If anyone's in the Chch area and would like to come have a look or could recommend me anywhere I'd really appreciate it - I've been to Crowesport the other week to do my rocker covers and header tank but they really screwed me round and ripped me off so dont really wanna go there again..

Thanks!

Try Stubaru , they know there stuff. welcome to club sub though, good to see another chch member. that faint ticking noise is normal for subarus , without hearing it ofcourse. the nail in the can noise , guessing an exhaust sheild is rattleing.

my vote is an exhaust heat sheild, its very common for the heat shield around the up pipe to come away.

and oh boy I love a good oil discussion!!! my vote for anything older than version 6 (i.e no avcs) is castrol edge 10w60

basically anything 10w40 and above and at least semi synthetic, I wouldn't go as low as 10w30 on an older high km engine.

What do u recomend for avcs engine and y?

I have ways used magnetec 10w40 on all my cars with 4000km changes

Yea always good to see oil discussions

Jump in the car, open your door and sort of hang your head around the bottom of the car and give it a little rev. Could be a bit of rust or something in the exhaust. Had the same sort of issue with the girlfriend's E36, turns out on that one of the mufflers had been removed.

I was just staying away from commenting on anything AVCS as some people say running higher than 10w30 effects the AVCS. I've ogt a mate whos always run edge 10w60 on his 238kw v7 sti with no drama though

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
