Have hardly been driving the car recently due to shoulder surgery, probably out of action for around 2 weeks just sitting in the driveway. Has now had 2-3 short (5-10min) trips in the last week, and all seemed as usual until tonight when this popped up:

Seems to run fine still, have only been cruising, no boosting or silly sh*t so not sure what it drives like under pressure yet, didn't want to bust anything even more than it might already be. No funny noises, no smoke.

Any suggestions of things i can check myself before calling a mechanic? Bearing in mind i currently have the use of 1.5 arms, and my previous mechanical genius consisted of oil changes and boost gauge install.. so i know where most bits are in the engine bay, but reasonably basic. Will see if any "check engine" codes come up first

Ok, so learnt a few things tonight. First was a bit of a facepalm moment.. realised that light was for an "engine fault", but didn't realise it was the actual check engine light since on my BG legacy it would actually say "check engine". Am i clever or what..

Second being that they made the connectors for checking the fault codes too short, what a bloody pain in the butt! Shoulder was ok, now its sore after that contortionist effort to connect/disconnect the f@#ckers about 4 times (ended up resetting ECU as well)

Lastly, people think you're stealing a car when you're in a stupid position, mucking around in the drivers footwell on the side of the road.

Anyway, so i've come out of that with nothing really. Flashed long 13, short 9 (even after reset).. wtf does that mean? I assume nothing since there's no such code as 139?! And since it just flashed continuously and then stopped when i did the ECU reset. Or am i doing that wrong too :

After all that, i'm thinking this thread is useless, given that i can't provide any useful information as to what could be wrong!

u will need to have it plugged into a OBD11 reader to get the code

139 in this instance is the 139th code on the list of codes you can get for that particular engine/ecu ( i believe this is how the modern one works) and is not as easy as 139 = O2 sensor

yer best bet is take it to a proper subbie place that can plug in the reader to tell you what code it is. 2002 (rev d) was the first that was odb2 so you cant read the codes youreslf - its a complete have if you ask me.

they can reset the ecu for you as well with the tool.

What's the point of it being able to spit codes if they're useless ?

I dunno, seems a bit pointless. You'd think if the number correlated to something, then you'd still be able to get a list of what that was

Went to mechanic, and he got code 1130: P1130 - Lack Of HO2S Switch - Adaptive Fuel At Limit

As usual, from that site, there's a looooooong list of potential issues

Where do i find that switch. I think mines doing da same. When cruising it goes fine but as soon as you feed abit more gas engine check light comes on fuel pump makes funny noise like it's struggling to pump fuel to the engine.

I dunno, he was talking about something near the right rear wheel, but i don't know if thats it. Car's going back on Friday for a better look over

after reading that link it looks to me like an O2 sensor problem, should be in the manifold under the engine and not near the rear wheel

So apparently it was my AFR sensor up the wazoo.. $500 thank you very much

Yeah, CE has gone, and after just driving it home can at least say it drives a lot better now. Much smoother acceleration

Cost just over $600 all up including labour, but apparently those sensors are around $700 from Subaru
