Cambelt timing ?

how do i know when my cambelt timing is out?

car will sound likes its turning over but it wont fully start

pull the cover off and check the marks line up. the cam on the right always look like they're 1/2 a tooth out

is it hard to set timing yourself? roughly from a mechanics what would they charge?

looking at scraping this motor and getting another....

someone also told me belt could be 180 out? but if its not and its out by alot then the valves etc could be bent??

and the cam gears?

think he means do i need to remove the FAN belts to ttake off the front cam belt covers to see the cam belt

pretty sure u need to pop the belts off - but that only takes all of 2 minutes to pop the belts off

you need to remove the harmonic balancer to remove the center cover to be able to see the crank timing

I did, he asked about the back plastic, not black plastic.

sorry shoulda used more detail ive got the motor out and powersteering/belt removed.

need too take the back plastic cam covers off as theyre broken aswell.

careful with the cam wheels they're quite brittle, dont try on undo them using the cambelt to hold them still. if you cant get the special tool you can (but a little rough) remove the rocker covers and hold the cam itself.

But if you do that you'll end up needing new rocker cover seals or at least new rubber washers and some 3 bond.

Someone on here may have a tool to borrow, take a pic of what type you have, theres a few different ones
