Intake advice?

Hi, I recently bought myself an Apex'i Power Intake Kit for my WRX. I was just after some advice on where the best place to stick the pod would be? Here is a picture of the current and not so great (right next to the header tank engine block!) position and setup.

What I had in mind at the moment was to remove the 90 degree bend and air box which are after the air flow meter and then get some sort of custom pipe made to create a straighter path to send the pod closer towards the snorkel on the guard? Also to block out heat I'm wondering if it's best to box off that whole area or just stick some sort of heat diversion plate between the pod and the engine block and header tank.

My WRX also has no ABS as you can see there's no pump :D so I do have a bit of space in front of the pod, don't know if that helps with better airflow at all though since the snorkel seems to be the primary area where cool air enters.

Any advice would be much appreciated, also if anyone has a good custom setup on their Version 2 WRX I'd be happy to hear from you too!

Thanks

cold air box.

basicly a metal box around your pod with flow coming from a snorkelectomy. thru your current cold air source.

like this.

good example cos its see thru..

or like this:

then do this:

whatever material you end up using wont help much unless you swap out the plastic spaghetti in your RH front guard.

try a marley pipe setup to feed cool air from down low to the hole where your current coldish air comes from.

not sure if anyone has a thread on this on CS yet

Heres how ive done mine. Not a close up but you get the picture. Just ali bent to shape and fitted. Just use cardboard to mock it up. Has a rubber seal on the top edge which is folded over as well.

Bonnet has a small intake scoop which i bought off trade me and painted up. Fits exact. I think MRT in Oz do Ali ones of these. Does effect anything as ive been up Teretonga a few times at 200k and bonnet doesnt move.

Just have to make sure your filter is well oiled but then again i dont have a map sensor so should be careful how much you put on.

When i get my car back from painter next week ill get a close up of airbox

Ive got a 1996 STI and i have been wondering about a new air intake but ive been worried about messing up the car due to more air flow. Is this possible? If say i brought a good expensive air filter, cleaned my MAF regularly and made it so the filter is getting to the coldest air possible what are the pros and cons? Thanks in advance :)

I'd stick with the standard airbox and OEM Air filters, you can run a Cold Air Feed to that from the inner guard with good results, wouldn't bother with POD filters and the like, money can be better spent elsewhere.

More like this tbh (excuese the mad paint skills). Tave it coming out where the fog light holes are, behind the cover. Its closed from the back and bottom so shouldnt let any water/mud in but will put a cheap pod filter on the end to help reduce it.

Replaced inner guard because had hole and was letting water in. no water issues so far been runin this about 8 months now.

Hey just wondering where you got those custom pipes made? Quite interested in this setup especially the intake pipe that replaces the OEM air box between the AFM and turbo. Also sent you a PM just in case, ;D cheers.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
