I\'m looking at buy a 97 wrx 173ks, now I have notice it\'s running a vf22, and yellow tops, orange air flow, dash says it red lines at 7500, now could this be an sti? There are no badges on the car to state this, it\'s from a car yard.

What does the speedo say? It could be one of the mysterious "jdm" wrx\'s, or an nz new wrx. Carjam the plates and it\'ll tell you if it\'s imported or not

Wagon or Sedan? Sounds like a normal 1997 WRX sedan.

Sounds like a normal 1997 Sedan. Can check the ecu, which is under the passengers foot well. It will probably say "1s" on it. 6s is the STi ecu. Otherwise take a photo of the applied model code, should be like gc8dxxxxx

But yes the v3/4 sedans had almost identical power spec to the STi, just lacked a little torque, stronger engine etc..

Sweet thanks mate will check I\'d tag? One other thing there\'s dealer guys don\'t seem to no what they are selling, I say this cause there is a build up of brown sludg in the over flow tank, I\'m thinking HG, but then again it could of been replaced but not flushed out, should I be concerned?

If it has the 7500 red line and vf22 it should be a jdm model?

It\'s crap you put it to well, stop a leak. But as you saw it\'s sludge that does more harm that good. I\'d look elsewhere if I was in your shoes.

if you do plan to buy it from that car dealer, be sure to buy a warranty (most car yards offer them) and they are good as long as you keep your car stock, and service intervals up.
