harder to engage after oil change? Possible?

Recommended Posts

Have change my gearbox oil recently. was told the clutch share the same oil. After the change, find it is a bit hard to engage into second gear when drop from high gear when doing a engine brake?

is it possible because the oil level or the quality of oil etc?

Different gear box oil will give you a different feel. There shouldn't be any oil on the clutch though.

He might be confused with the hydraulic fluid for the clutch. But no that is not shared with your gearbox either. I would say you have either changed to a thinner grade oil and now your old gear box feels more like its age or the new oil isn't getting through all the galleries in the gearbox and some parts are starving for lubrication.

I use whatever craps laying around. I think theres a mix of 75w90 80w90 and straight 80 in mine, it shifts beautifully. Very crisp and never crunchy.

Cant say id reccomend mixing oils, so im going to reccomend Valvoline 75w90. It made my old GT shift like a brand new car :D

what grade did they put in your gearbox?

i use Caltex Synstar 75w90 which is a full synthetic (GL-5 rated) and not cheap but seems to be good. we use it in most subbies at work as thats whats recommended by caltex who supply all our oils.

explain please?

i should add that my subaru workshop manual also recommends a GL-5 rated gearbox oil, which the synthetic 75w90 is, but the cheaper mineral based 75w90 is only GL-4 rated. you can run the mineral no probs and i have done before myself (as gearbox was coming out again anyway) but really unless your a cheap ass why would you run anything thats a lower spec than factory fill?

there is more to oil than just the viscosity.

i'm using Red Line lightweight shockproof gear oil, it's rated as 75w140, & it seam's fine to me, anybody else using it.

I use redline shockproof, but not 75w140... 75w90 I think.

driftrex: I just meant sucker for using what a distributor said to use, but it's probably

Used in rear diff and gearbox... is shit for some reason so switched to Castrol Syntrax which is what all the Sooby sepcialists said so paid some decent money for it and now its mint.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
