Bedding in brake pads

Recommended Posts

I\'ve got a new set of Ferodo DS2500s in my car. I need to bed them in. Like most high performance pads, there is recommendation for multiple cycles of braking and accelerating to get heat into the discs and pads, and then a prolonged cool-down drive. The only place I know of outside of a racetrack to do this, and have room to keep going if (and when) the brakes fade is on the motorway. Would do it in the small hours of the morning. AFAIK this isn\'t illegal or a traffic offence in any way, I\'m talking max speeds of 100kmH. Does anyone else have any other suggestions? I\'m in Auckland, by the way.

Last time I bedded in a set of pads was years ago, Mintex 1166 compound on my old Peugeot 206 GTi. The recommended procedure was 10-12 cycles of 100kmh --> 20kmH with full ball acceleration in between, then a cool down drive. Sounds a lot more vicious than what you\'ve described, and the pads were pouring smoke by the end.

For endless this is the procedure. VERY important not to overheat!

Bedding in procedure

IMPORTANT: When bedding these ENDLESS brake pads it is very important not to over heat them,

the end result from this will be your braking system not operating to its full potential and you will not

receive the full benefit from these ENDLESS brake pads.

It is recommended by the manufacturer that this bedding in procedure is carried out to achieve

the best performance from your brake pads.

The bedding procedure is best carried out on closed road conditions.

Ideally temperatures of 400 to 450 degrees need to be achieved to properly bed these pads, the best

way to achieve this is with several high speed slow downs, 160km down to 50kmh done over a 3 to 4

lap period with cool down time between slow downs to avoid over heating the pad surface. Your

braking during bedding procedure should not exceed 70% to 80 % of what you would do during race

conditions. This applies a layer on brake pad compound onto the rotor face. The Braking power will

steadily increase as the pads start to wear in and match your rotor face.

ENDLESS brake pads are not compatible with competitor compounds. All competitor

compounds must be removed from the rotor face by either lightly skimming the rotor before use

or using Emery paper. This will ensure your new brake pads bed-in correctly, and failure to do

this may result in poor braking performance and/or shuddering.

Best brake pads ever! ;) ;) ;):D :D :D

So as a road car, Simply carry out the bed in procedure from 100kph down to around 20 kph 5-6 times.

DO NOT left foot your pads to bed in as it will overheat them. ;)

      Afternoon team,

Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
