Scarles HDi boost controllers

Hi there

Does any one know anything about the scarles range of HDi boost controllers? they are damn cheap at around $200 but are they any good? any info on them from anyone would be great?

AnwY they work fine if u set them up correctly

Prone to some slight overboost in cold temp

I had thT issue so simply set it up on a cold night and that way that was the maximum

It made less boost in the summer

if u Wana get something like that just get a hallman pro as it controlls better than that one and is more consistant and costs less

Work fine but gate still creeps open. Its just an electronic tap if its the same as what I had. Waste of coin when a manual tap gives the same result.

So basically from that write up a cheap ebc will not use a solenoid to control boost.

Does that mean with a closed boost system u would have to use an external wastegate or is it still fine with a internal?

Fine with internal. I ran closed loop with G4 on internal/VF22 and it was awesome.

What is the max boost that is generally accepted as safe with the TD05h? 1995 v2 sti engine

Depdends on how long u want the engine to Last but generally a few psi over stock wud not be too bad all things considered

Yep but effectively just a manual boost tap...? You turn the knob to obtain a certain boost level.

How does a knob make it like a boost tap compared to pushing a button? Still uses a solenoid to close the line off for building boost and then opens/closes to maintain the set level.

The unit I had had 1 knob which changed boost. No gain on it at all so gate still started opening at half pressure. No different to one of the boost tap with spring and ball in it in my mind. You set the boost level period. Cant turn a tap off though.

the scarles one doesnt reference manifold pressure (actual boost) against a preset level... (closed loop)

the manual controller and the scarles ebc are effectively like the 1.5 and 2.0 non turb impreza.

both do the job, ones a flashier more expensive version, just not as good as the sti...

(sti being $$$$ controler with closed loop referencing)

just as a comparative.

the closed loop controlers will allow you to preset a duty cycle, how rapidly it comes on boost, how sensitive the controler is to boost fluctuations... set a boost level as target, and it\'ll do its best to maintain that preset boost level come hell or high water.

Well thats what it says but like I said I raised boost with it but doesnt hold gate shut like closed loop does. It says it uses closed loop to stop fluctuations after level is reached?

some are, some arn\'t. the cheaper ones arn\'t... i\'ve seen / read so many mixed reviews, seen the cheaper ones, and seen the wire in kits, YMMV

Yeah the regulating of spikes is in the preset gain settings, either way the unit I had worked great and boost onset was better than a boost tap or stock solenoid.

If you ask me not a huge waste of money if the car doesn\'t need a big flash ebc?

$200 is a waste of money when a marky tap will do the same job or when you can get a decent secondhand ebc that will really work well for $200. This isnt just coz scarles are shit either lol. Mine was no better than a tap.

It\'s not scarles branded it\'s HDi, they\'re an independant company in australia. Scarles are just selling them for more than you get them from hdi for.

Oh I dont have a problem with them mine worked perfectly also but just a glorified tap imo so waste of coin. I think I had the earlier version of the one I posted tm link to as it didnt have the led\'s on it.

Says it Subaru specific (Im guessing that means for boost cut lifting feature) and that it uses closed loop boost regulating technique.

Also how tricky are the GFB ones to set up and get working right?

gfb, f**king magic. love my one, easy to set up, just read the instructions first.
