v4 sti motor, car shakes at idle

Hi,

I just bought my first subaru, and noticed that it shakes when im at a stop in neutral.

Its a v4 sti motor in a imprezza type r.

Have no idea what is causing it. Any ideas/help please.

Also is there a place in auckland that can fix a seal on the gearbox drive shaft as it has a leak. Somewhere reasonable in price.

Thankd,

Josh

If you need to fix the leak where the drive shaft meets the center diff you\'ll need to buy an \'o\' ring for that. Picture and part number are in my thread just below yours. You can do it with the transfer case on the car but mine was extremely tight and i had to be quite forceful to get the new one in and the old one out.

Your issue could with idle could be rough idle? Caused by a few things unfortunately. Run a search for it. I\'m sure there will be a thread related to rough idle on the forum.

I\'m not entirely sure as this was picked up from an inspection from vtnz before purchase. But i think it is just an \'o\' shaped seal from what the guy explained at vtnz.

The idle is stable between 750-850 rpm but car sometimes shakes.

Thanks for the input. Wheres the best place to get this done at a reasonable price in Auckland?

I got it checked by vtbz before i bought it and they didnt say anything about an unplugged coil or misfire but car does shake when im on neutral. I will get the mounts checked tomorrow as well as get seal replaced at croydon out west with trans flush.

How much does it cost to fix the coil or misfire?

Vadster - will find out if its actually just a mount tomorrow

Got car checked today and mounts were fine. Mechanic said could be plugs or air flow meter thats causing car to shake at idle

My car had rough idle and seemed like it was running on three until the ecu was surged and died. Mechanic replaced the afm and ecu. Car was fine after that.

Mechanic is probably right.

Although I do think I heard a missfire? Just check leads and plugs as mentioned before.

The ecu wont tell you if the afm is dead. Well mine didn\'t... lol.

ECU codes are more for sensors and specifically emission standards. AFM is a meter (as the acronym would suggest).

I like the colour!

Yea he said should get it done next service as its not that bad.

Do you know anyone that could check my plugs and leads? Mechanic cost quite a bit per hour.

As for the ecu, he couldnt connect my ecu onto the scan machine thing.

Thanks shore boy. Do you have a type r as well?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
