Sti engine life

Hi guys I am pretty new to this forum and was wondering your thoughts on Sti engine life stock/mildly modded. I have seen so many Sti on trademe for sale that have rebuilt engines

and some of them have done only like 60-70ks before this happened. Is this just due to kids that trash them?, also those with Sti what kind of k\'s has your engine done without any hassles?.

If you don\'t keep an eye on your oil level and don\'t change it regularly (ie. if you don\'t take care of it) it\'s a good way to kill it. Same with raping them from cold.

Overseas, Subarus have a massive reputation for reliability, but in NZ people thrash them to death with little or no maintenance so they have a bad rep here

My STi is at 131,000 and going strong with (as far as I know) the original engine.

My brothers one is at 200km and still runs perfect

What do you expect when the average age of a WRX owner in NZ is 12?

Boost taps cost $30 and are probably the most common mod. Subarus are the best bang for buck turbo car in NZ and thats why they have such a bad rep.

To be fair the boxer motor has a weak point in the form of half size big end bearings which means they can\'t cope with poor maintenance or det to the same degree most other engines can. You\'d think nothing of sitting an RB or jz on limiter all day, a suby almost asks for a rebuild if you look at it sideways

My legacy engine done 380k from original. It helped to change oil at 5k intervals.
