Power Robbing

Howsit~! alright, What i have here is a Cheap Project WRX i picked up not long ago. Now before i say whats next, no1 flame me ok, dont get me wrong, WRX's are wicked cars, AWD is awesome.... But to boring... So im making it RWD, of course i could have brought a Skyline or s13,14 , But i like WRX's, The sound and the look.

Now ive gotta problem with the engine, The WRX was $1300, so i expected half of it to not work or be broken. its a 1996 Ver 3 JDM WRX in black (sedan) which "said" 86,000kms on the clock, Ive confirmed it on carjam, but upon further inspection of engine i found that it had been replaced with a Ver 1-2 engine.

What could be causing my car not to run over 7psi? Ive got a V3 STi ECU, Injectors, and AFM installed.... many times have i checked the Boost lines to only find them all still connected (no leaks). Im running with a TD05h turbo, 3 inch down pipe and HKS Silent Hi-power Cat back Exhaust system.... Could it be that the engine i have now is poked, Though, it isnt blowing any smoke... Car runs mint on 7psi... Im confused and stuck...

one would assume its got the V3 loom in it - Kameniko did this to his v2, has a version 3 ecu and loom on a v2 motor - not an easy task by any means.

Does it run a boost controller or a stock boost solenoid?

you said you checked all the lines for leaks - are the plugged into the right places?

Is the V3 ecu a STI ecu or a WRX? (what does the rex run standard about8-10psi i think)?

Is the ECU showing any fault codes (thus in limp mode and not boosting)?

Have you checked another boost gauge to make sure your getting an accurate reading?

Some places for you to start looking...

funkytown: Its just a version 2 block, it has a Ver. 3 STi Intake Manifold and matching loom for that year (3-4). It has stock boost control which I setup the same to my mates Ver 3 STi RA that has stock boost control. The ECU i personally took out of a Ver 3 STi. The car boost's fine for 7psi but it just won't go up... Ive also replaced all lines to make sure there wasn't any restrictor pil.

nzkaosnz: Posibly, I have a spare boost control from a Ver. 3 STi that i guess i should try. Ive tried a "Boost Tap" but that didnt seem to raise it either... :-X

interestingly enough - the restrictor pill actually increases boost :P

depends on how the boost tap is set up.... possibly try a manual/electronic boost controller if you can get one.

def try another boost gauge before getting drastic...

could VERY carefully try freeboosting (with a mate yelling at you the minute you start hitting high boost) to just check that that parts all set up sweet.

Is it the two port boost solenoid? You need to restrictor in there to make it work otherwise all you'll get is wastegate boost as the solenoid can't bleed off enough air to be effective.

try that bro - as soon as u hit 11-13 psi u can get off the gas cos that def proves that the turbo is not stuffed

then use a tap or ebc to set the boost u want

16 should be nice and sweet mid range power

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
