GC8 turbo spool rev range

When does my turbo start to spool up proper? I assume it is 3k RPM but just want to be sure.

Looking to reinstate some normal economy to my open road driving and I can\'t help but feel cruising on boost, whilst cinveneint when needing to overtake, is going to have efficiency ramifications!

Theres about 8 different turbos you could have. What year and spec level GC8 specifically?

In all fairness if you after economy probably not the best car to have bought, if the turbo/engine is stock and depending on type around 3-4 k is when it comes on full boost.

The bigger turbo ones seem to be easier to do more Econ driving as easier to stay under boost where as if u have the td04 then they spool fast an harder to keep off boost on them

Just comparing same sorta driving

I used to have a stock v3sti wagon and my mate had a stock v5 wagon and on the Econ scale the bigger turbo car seemed to get better km if both were driven gently

We lived in similar area and worked at the same place so we always compared results

I think on the motorway his td04 wud be spooling more and hitting boost more times even in stop start traffic

Driving wasn\'t too nana driving but just sensible but not over doing it

Its not a supercharger. So just because the turbo could be producing 15psi somewhere around 3-3.5k rpm\'s, doesn\'t mean that it is always doing so.

If you are cruising at a constant speed, on a flat piece of road, even if you are at 5k rpm\'s (don\'t know why anyone would cruise at 100kph in 3rd but for the sake of discussion lets say its happening), then you are using the same amount of fuel as a non-turbo. Its only when you accelerate and put a higher load on the motor that the turbo will then start doing its job and fill your engine with boost.

If you put a boost gauge in. You\'ll see it go up to full boost when you floor it and then the boost will fall back into the vacuum range once you start cruising at a fixed speed.

If you want better economy, buy a Primera.

\'97 JDM w/(reconditioned 20,000km ago)VF22, maintained in completely stock form.

I\'m not a strict economy nazi so to speak, I\'m just trying to get decent km\'s cruising about in the 100-120kmph range as I have a 1500km drive ahead of me.
