Impreza vs forester: couple handling questions

hey all

Was wondering last night, as my motoring needs become more and more sensible rather than boyracer-ish I have started to consider other cars.

As such I was wondering how the 2002-2005 shape forester XT compares to the equivalent model wrx hatch in terms of handling and stability.

I know they are both based on the impreza chassis but I wondered how much of that can really be felt in the forester.

Reason why I ask is that the XT foresters don\'t seem to be slow really (same engine as that years wrx I believe?) but a bigger interior which appeals to me along with a much bigger boot and I think better towing capacity.

Would prefer opinions from people who have owned/driven both thanks

XT\'s are quick enough and very practical.

There\'s more compliance in the suspension (a natural speed limiter - stops you doing anything stupid) and they aren\'t bad off-road.

Thumbs up if you don\'t rice it (moronic stuff like dumping the suspension, fitting ultra-low profile tyres etc.).

I\'d take one over other softroaders like RAV4, CRV, X-Trail etc.

one of the best mods for these is a stiffer rear sway bar. the standard one is sickeningly soft, putting a sti one in makes it much nicer to drive, still nice and comfy but doesnt roll like a unstable boat.

i had an 02 XT great car, only things i found were that the brakes need to be bigger, get brake fad after a while, if pushing it thru the twisties, handles pretty good i must admit! other wise they are great cars, spend a few bob and get an STI version these are fantastic!
